7 WAYS TO TRANFORM AN OLD MEN/WOMEN’S SHIRTS

August 25, 2017~ SEWING

Let’s go down the memory lane and look at 7 ways I transformed an old men/women’s shirts into dresses or tops. I am currently working on another men’s shirt refashion and have lots of old shirts in my “refashion pile” so I am sure this won’t be the first compilation!

#1 and #2: I bought two of the same shirts so with the 2nd one, I turned it into a girl’s dress,  I took in the sides, made the sleeves skinnier and shorter, then with the extra fabric added the waist tie and the ruffles on the shoulders.

#3 I transformed a plain shirt into a shirt with pleated sleeves with a ribbon trim and a bow in the back.

#4 I transformed a XXL men’s shirt into a fitted dress for my daughter. I cut the middle of the shirt, made the bodice much smaller, gathered the bottom to make a gathered skirt, and attached it back. I also made the sleeves into an elbow length.

#5 this was when I entered a competition called refashion runway and the theme was gingham. So I turned a XL men’s shirt into a crop top and a skirt set with a matching headband using the collar.

#6 was also for refashion runway and the theme was stripes and flora. I used a Large stripled women’s shirt and transformed it into a dress and then for the floral theme, added red tulip pockets.

You made it to #7! I turned a large men’s shirt into a bell sleeve dress with a v-neck line in the back for my daughter.

Let me know which of the 7 was your favorite and if you’d like to see me transform more old shirts, give me a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel! See you next time!

THE NEXT BIG YOUTUBER 2017

August 10, 2017~ SEWING

My girls begged me to take them with me for the announcement of the winner of the @cvxlive Next Big YouTuber contest tonight. “I know you’re going to win mommy so I want to see you win, please???” They even picked my whole outfit and they put on clothes I DIY’ed for them. How could I say no?

Jay made it just in time with our son for the announcement and my kids were all on stage with me when they announced me as the winner! I hate being on stage so it was good to have my cute kids up there with me to deter the attention away from me. I really hate the spotlight. Maybe one day I will learn to not mind it. Thank you for all your votes to get me to top 30, and the judges who picked me to be the top 6 and as the final winner. I’m so grateful!

I can’t believe I won the Next Big YouTuber Contest! I submitted my video(my least favorite DIY I’ve done but it was the most recent one with the best editing at the time of submission) and was picked to be the top 100, then thanks to your votes, I made it to the top 30(6 finalists in each of the 5 categories), then as the top 6 finalists, then as the final winner!

Unlike they’ve done in the past, it was a live voting by the judges this year and when all the judges came up on judge before the live voting began, I got nervous because there were about 8 judges and only 1 was a woman! I thought, darn it, I don’t think most will appreciate what I do or think it’s cool, my chance of winning is low… So I was surprised and so happy.

I want to give a shout out to @techwithbrett as the runner-up in our DIY category, he was so sweet to make sure I grabbed my plaque(my mom brain would have totally went home without one), and some of the other top 6 finalists, @monicamooresmith who is so talented & her music videos are legit professional 🙌🏼, and @tlifedailyvlogs for being so friendly & supportive. Go check them out!

Also, am I the only one who thought the giant check was a real check you take to the bank to cash out? When they told me off stage that they’ll write me a real check right then, I was like 😶😮 but kept it cool and was like, “Oh yeah! Sounds good.”😅

DIY: QUICK 5-MIN. DRESS ALTERATION | How to Alter Your Own Clothes

August 3, 2017~ SEWING

Welcome to refashion revision where I take outdated clothes and turn it into new. I’m Sarah and I’ve been refashioning for 10 years on my blog called Our Life is Beautiful.

This week’s episode is a simple alteration on taking a size small dress into size extra small. One awesome thing about knowing how to sew  is that even if it doesn’t fit you right in the dressing room, you can still buy it and take it home to make it right! So you should learn to sew! 😉

Do you like this music? I’ve listened to your advice about my music being quiet terrible, they were free so my options were limited but now I will have better music since I am now purchasing the music. Yay! Thank you for your suggestions and input!

Estimated time: 7 minutes

Budget: $0

Skill level: A beginner

You might have noticed my DIY’s being very simple lately, the reason being is my dad is not doing well, he had a stroke on the 4th of July and has been in the hospital ever since, he’s back in the ICU(Intensive Care Unit) for the 2nd time, so thank you for your patience as my Youtube is just not my highest priority but I have awesome DIY’s lined up for you so thank you so much for sticking around!

DIY: BLOUSE TO DRESS REFASHION IN 2 MINS. || How to Transform Old Clothes

July 30, 2017~ SEWING

Welcome to another episode of Refashion Revision where I take outdated clothes and turn it into new.

This may be my shortest refashion DIY I will ever do, I turned this women’s blouse to a girls dress in less than 2 mins.! This blouse was a $1 find from a thrift store and I instantly knew it could turn into a dress for my daughter in a matter of minutes! I love finding super fast and easy DIY’s to do.

So should I play the music in the background the whole duration of the video, or just during the intro and the closing? I’d love your input, thank you!

Here is my cute niece modeling the before and my daughter modeling the after.

I don’t think I could pull off the dramatic ruffles on the shoulders as cute as her, so I am glad I made it into a dress for my daughter. What do you think?

Welcome to Refashion Revision where I take outdated clothes and turn it into new.

In this episode I’ll be turning these black and white trousers that have been sitting in my closet for 4 years, into a detachable overall skirt.

For this project you’ll need:

  • 5-6 buttons for the inside of the waistband
  • sewing needle
  • matching thread
  • safety pin
  • 2 buttons for outside the waistband
  • scissors
  • seam ripper

Project cost: $4 for the buttons

Estimated time: 2.5 hours

Skill level: intermediate

Did you see my new wedding ring I got for our 10-year anniversary? For those that asked, they are from www.marctarian.com, it’s a gold rose ring with a 8x10mm gemstone of pink morganite.  I love it so much!

Do you like the buttons I switched to? I feel since the size is smaller and it’s a matte instead of shiny, it blended with the overall skirt more and wasn’t so distracting as the other one. What do you think?
