To kick off our mother-daughter Refashion Revision series, we are giving away a sewing machine and a sewing starter kit to one lucky winner, valued at $600! That’s not all, we are giving away 5 sewing starter kits as well, valued at $100 each so there will be 6 winners total! Open to U.S and Canada only. Giveaway will run until April 16th, 2018 and the winner will be emailed and announced on the blog.
A huge thank you to EverSewn for their generosity in providing the giveaway prizes. I was immediately impressed with EverSewn after doing my research and found out the 5th generation owner of Bernina, Philipp Ueltschi engineered the EverSewn machines. I own a Bernina which I love and according to Philipp, “My role is to bring EverSewn to the next gen consumers and bring new, young people into the sewing world,” Their machines are metal on the inside just like Bernina and their quality is excellent while the price point is very attractive. So if you are a beginner and don’t want to spend thousands of dollars on a high quality machine, I recommend EverSewn. I will also link below where you can purchase them.
So should we take a look on what the winner will win?

When I started refashioning 10 years ago, I made a promise to God that I’d always stick to designing modest clothes that are wearable with LDS garments. It’s much harder to refashion since it cuts down on sooooo many design options and it requires more fabric when every inch of fabric is precious in refashioning, thus requiring more creativity & innovation. And when I see stunning dresses like this, I realize an exact dress like this with sleeves wouldn’t achieve the same design of delicacy or femininity hence it wouldn’t be as beautiful. But it’s a promise I made to God and myself and I’m sticking to it. Even if I ever became a famous fashion designer and A-list celebrities beg me to design something contrary to my promise. Because I really played this scenario in my head of them asking, pleading but I calmly turn them down and make them something modest instead and they end up loving it and rocking it on the red carpet. Because a girl can dream, right?

I went to an overnight sleepover in SLC with 9 other UT bloggers a couple weeks ago and it was so fun! I didn’t know most of these bloggers and they were a breathe of fresh air and so fun to be around. We first went to Christopher’s for dinner. Can you tell we are a bunch of bloggers by the photo below?
you know you’re at a blogger event when…
I got lobster! It was only $12 more expensive than their steak so I thought why not? All their food was so delicious. My favorite was their roasted brussels sprouts.
Then we went to City Creek Center for some shopping. I got this sweater from Anthropologie for $16! Score!
It reminded me of one of my very first refashions I’ve done, inspired by Anthropologie, see it in this post.
We then went to Live Game Escape. To be honest, I didn’t know what it was going to be like so I wasn’t that excited. But it ended up being SO MUCH fun. I loved it way more than I thought I would! It’ll be great for team work between families, group dates of singles and marrieds, church activities, co-workers! It’s a must do. I plan on going again with my husband because he’s so confident he can solve their hardest one that had 5% escape rate(without getting any hints from the employees).
Harmon’s provided us with wonderful variety of treats and snacks for our late night hang out and also a gift bag to take home. They were so generous with a bunch of delicious snacks in the gift bag!
We finished the sleepover with a brunch at Pigs & a Jelly Jar. It was at their new location in Holladay so afterwards, me and a blogger I was giving a ride home to drove around and looked at all the gorgeous houses in Holladay. They have amazing houses like this newly built colonial home!
I loved this house so I took a photo and posted it on my everything-home Instagram account @inmydreamhome and turns out, it’s a house built by my friends Tom & Cara from the Fox Group Construction! Which is no surprise since I love every single house that they have built, it’s perfection. Cara has been helping me with our new house designs and has been so patient and helpful with my incessant questions. I trust her way more than my own taste so whatever she says has been like the Bible for me haha. So if you are looking to build a custom home, they are your people!
Then right after the sleepover, I met up with my family and Jay’s little brother and his family for some dim sum for my brother-in-law’s birthday. So I ate really good those 2 days! Too much!
While we were not paid, we did get comped hotel stay + food + Live game escape. Thank you to Mediavine for covering our hotel stay, thank you to Christopopher’s for dinner, thank you to Live Game Escape for the fun time, Harmon’s for providing the snacks, and Pigs & a Jelly Jar for the brunch.

Let’s go down the memory lane and look at 7 ways I transformed an old men/women’s shirts into dresses or tops. I am currently working on another men’s shirt refashion and have lots of old shirts in my “refashion pile” so I am sure this won’t be the first compilation!
#1 and #2: I bought two of the same shirts so with the 2nd one, I turned it into a girl’s dress, I took in the sides, made the sleeves skinnier and shorter, then with the extra fabric added the waist tie and the ruffles on the shoulders.
#3 I transformed a plain shirt into a shirt with pleated sleeves with a ribbon trim and a bow in the back.
#4 I transformed a XXL men’s shirt into a fitted dress for my daughter. I cut the middle of the shirt, made the bodice much smaller, gathered the bottom to make a gathered skirt, and attached it back. I also made the sleeves into an elbow length.
#5 this was when I entered a competition called refashion runway and the theme was gingham. So I turned a XL men’s shirt into a crop top and a skirt set with a matching headband using the collar.
#6 was also for refashion runway and the theme was stripes and flora. I used a Large stripled women’s shirt and transformed it into a dress and then for the floral theme, added red tulip pockets.
You made it to #7! I turned a large men’s shirt into a bell sleeve dress with a v-neck line in the back for my daughter.
Let me know which of the 7 was your favorite and if you’d like to see me transform more old shirts, give me a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel! See you next time!
