dress design contest

October 15, 2010~ DIY DREAM HOUSE

*this dress won the dress design contest for shabby apple!
thank you for your love and support, it was all because of you!
(and i mean that quiet literally.)

i decided to enter the dress design for Shabby Apple dresses again.
to see my last year’s designs click here.
i didn’t make it to the top 15 last year but it’s the journey that
counts, not the results right? if you don’t win that is. hahaha
but seriously, there’s nothing you lose by trying, you can only
gain experience and wisdom with every dream you pursue i believe.
like remember when i never made it to oprah’s next t.v star? haha.

but the funny thing is, after i designed the dress, i’ve been seeing
the same designs everywhere! is it just me? like this michael kors
dress. a year after i designed it!
does he read my blog? haha jk, i highly doubt that.
but seriously…it’s kind of weird, dont you think?

so here is my design for the contest. i think many of you are familiar…

what if i told you i made this dress from a long vintage skirt? click here to see the before transformation.
one of my very favorite photographer Jessica Peterson took these photographs.

she is simply amazing. check out her website and her blog.
you’ll fall in love just like I have.
i mean who else can make my awkward brace-mouth look decent?
here are more detailed pictures of the pleated design.

my inspiration for the design: this was actually a long vintage skirt(click to see the before)that’s been transformed into a dress. i was just brainstorming on how touse this long skirt to use when i had a sudden idea. so i just went with it, and viola!

color and fabric: vintage white and silk.

j.crew flower garden cardigan

October 3, 2010~ DIY DREAM HOUSE

i just posted this thinking tomorrow was monday but it’s only sunday!
weird! but oh well, i’m sure you guys don’t mind it if i post a day early right? πŸ˜‰
*i made this awhile ago but never posted the inspiration picture or the after pictures of me wearing it. so here it is.

my inspiration came from this J.crew cardigan.

and remember the anthropologie one after another cardigan i posted last week? this is the same cardigan in pink, from express over 10 yrs. ago.

and this scarf my mom bought for me from korea that I’ve never wore.
So I added the scarf to the cardigan.
the after:

saved $100+!

DIY-J.Crew ruffle path dress

September 6, 2010~ DIY DREAM HOUSE

inspiration: J.Crew ruffle tank

h & m dress I got for $5

an old skirt I’ve never worn, not even once!

after:

(note: since it’s taken through the mirror, the ruffles are showing the opposite side as it really is. so it’s actually the same exact way as the j.crew tank pictured above. get it? i sure was confused for a little bit haha. πŸ˜€ )

this last picture shows the color of the dress more correctly.I don’t know how much I saved but I think it’s safe to say I saved A WHOLE LOT! πŸ˜‰

anthro DIY-sailor and sweetheart cardi

August 17, 2010~ DIY DREAM HOUSE

I was featured here last week on examiner.com for my anthropologie marjorelle necklace thanks to Samantha! Thank you for the article!
my inspiration this week:

sailor and sweetheart cardi from anthropologie. original price: $98. from my closet:
a striped shirt
and a long sleeve floral dress

I cut the neckline of the shirt and the sleeves of the dress to use for the tie.
and the result:

this dress looked a little grandma-ish due to the long sleeves but with the cap sleeves now it looks more young and fresh.

I saved over $100! πŸ˜‰
