“Comfort Me” Giveaway with Saranoni, Kathyandflick & Katykristin

August 13, 2014~ Etc.

We have an awesome giveaway for you this week where one winner will win a adult blanket and a toddler/teen blanket of their choice from Saranoni, custom made shark book from KathyandFlick, and a doll of your choice from KatyKristin, a total of $240 value.

Let’s take a look at each shop:

Saranoni

When a company contacts me to see if I’d like to do a review on their product, I start out by saying, “Hmm, let’s really see if it’s an awesome product that I would really want.”  and dig into their website to learn all about the product.  I have a policy that I only feature items that I love on this blog, and if I don’t fall in love with it, I contact the company and politely and apologetically tell them I won’t be featuring their products/company on my blog(it’s happened a few times actually, and sometimes I even offer to pay for it because I feel bad).  So I am always very picky with what products I agree to receive because I know if I won’t like it, I won’t post it and I feel bad for that company.  So just in the future, know that I turn down quiet a bit of companies that contact me,wanting to send me products because what’s the point in receiving something, even if it’s for free, if I won’t like it and use it?  That’s a waste of time on my part and for the company.
So when Saranoni contacted me, I thought, “Hmm, is it really the softest blanket in the world like you claim?  Hmmm?”  Okay, I can’t find anywhere on their site now that claims they’re the softest blanket so I don’t know where I got that idea, but it doesn’t matter because I am here to claim to the world that it really is the softest blanket in the world!  Well, that’s silly you might say.  Have I tried every blanket in the world?  Yes, I have.  No, I am joking, of course I haven’t.  But I can’t imagine a blanket being any softer, smooth or cozy!
My 6 year old daughter always tells me she doesn’t have anything that comforts her.  She has never found a blanket or a doll that comforts her, so I was hoping this soft blanket would comfort her, and just as I was hoping, the first thing my daughter said was, “Mommy, this blanket comforts me!” and she has named it spotty.  My other daughter who can’t live without her old blanket said she now has 2 favorite blankets.  She has named it fuzzy.

I chose the Ivory wave/gingersnap wave for myself and a Gray stripe XL throw for my husband because they’re both neutral colors and it will match with our bedspreads or in our living room if we want to use it as a decorative/guest throw.

Kathy and Flick
This quiet shark book is perfect for bedtime reading and my favorite, at church.  The book comes with a cute little shark and the shark can hide in each individual pocket that’s on every page in different “hiding spots” such as a boat, a sea wave, a cave, and a treasure box.  My favorite game to play with my 12 month old with the shark book is to hide the shark in one of the hiding spots and have him flip through the pages to see how fast he can find it.  It’s like a hide and go seek with the shark, and he loves it!  I also love quiet books because it can be rolled up or bend, making it fit just right in the crevice of my diaper bag.
Katy Kristin
My daughter chose the Pippi rag doll, probably because Ariel and Merida are her favorites Disney princesses and they both have red hair.  She loves her doll, she’s been sleeping with it every night and carrying it around with her wherever she goes.  It doesn’t have any choking hazards such as buttons on the doll, and I love that it’s machine washable.  It’s made of soft cotton, muslin and fleece and it’s durable and adorable!  I love the vintage fabrics on the doll , the bird print is my favorite.  KatyKristin has been featured in the current issue of Mollie Makes U.S Edition.

Interview with Blickenstaff’s

February 11, 2014~ Etc.

One Saturday morning a few weeks ago, I woke up with Aiden and was nursing him when my husband came to the bedroom and said, “Uh, hun? There are some people at the door saying they’re here to interview and take pictures?”  “Oh, crap!” was my reply as I remembered Blickenstaff was coming to interview and take photographs of our family to be featured on their website.  We had it scheduled a few weeks in advance for them to come to take photos and interview our family but I totally forgot about it!  Mom brain is a real thing, people!  I skipped and hopped over my closet and the bathroom and tried to get ready as fast as I can while Jay got ready too and made sure the kids looked presentable.  Me on the other hand, I hadn’t showered in 3 days, my hair was so greasy and matted, I had just woken up not long before, I was not camera ready to say the least!  I quickly got dressed and tried to look decent(I couldn’t find my make up bag but I found a really old eyeliner and lipstick on the back of the bathroom drawer, so that had to do).  We got ready in less than 7 minutes.  It was our family record.
These are the pictures from that Saturday morning.
Photographs by Aria Photography.
My favorite part of the interview was when the interviewer asked my 6 year old daughter, “So do you have any funny stories that happened recently?” and my daughter replied, “When my daddy dressed like a girl in my mommy’s dress and Rapunzel wig and acted like a girl.”  To read the story behind that and for the full interview, click here.
We love Blickenstaff’s(possibly the coolest toy/candy store ever) and I think it’s awesome they’re emphasizing on the importance of family traditions and values.  Thanks for having us Blickenstaff’s!

DIY: stained shirt to a printed shirt

October 9, 2012~ DIY DREAM HOUSE

I had a plain white tee that had a bit of yellow stain on it. I thought instead of throwing it away, I would add some designs on it using fabric paint!  I was inspired by one of my blog readers I featured last week, Sunlight and Sequins.
Instructions:
What you’ll need:
-shirt
-sponge brush
-stamp
-fabric paint
-wax paper
-cup
Directions:
1. Cut up wax paper and insert inside the shirt, to make sure the fabric paint doesn’t seep through.
2. Squeeze out some fabric paint into a cup and dip the sponge brush lightly.  With the brush, paint on the stamp.
3. Lay the shirt on a flat surface and stamp wherever desired.  Stamp once more if you’d like the design to be more prominent.
4. Let it dry 4 hours before stamping the other side.
5. Wait at least 3 days before putting it in the wash.
Estimated time: 1 1/2 hours
Budget: under $10(if using a shirt you already have)
Skill level: beginner

after:
{top: DIY | skirt: swapped | tights: h&m | mint shoes: c/o vivilli}
so flattering, I know.

I did this while my girls were being babysat by my neighbor, and when Adi came home, she saw what I had made and wanted to make one for herself as well.  She wanted to do it all by herself(I was right by her side to guide her), and didn’t she do a great job?
And when Jay came home and saw me in this shirt, he started reciting the Boy Scout’s slogan while signaling the Boy Scout sign.  Turns out, it’s really close to the Boy Scout logo… darn it!  But whatever, I still like it and I’m still gonna wear it!

Thread Ethic

May 18, 2012~ Etc.

I had the chance to meet Melody & Deondra, two sisters of the 5 Browns, who are known for their incredible piano performances, at the mother’s day event at Tiffany and Co.  Melody writes a fashion blog called Thread Ethic with her sister and she snapped this photo of me that was featured on her blog today if you’d like to check it out(you can find out where to buy my dress on her blog post too).
I’m so happy I got to meet her and discovered her blog in the process because it’s now one of my favorite fashion blogs!  I love the subtitle of their blog, Brave enough to make strong fashion choices, confident enough not to bear it all.  Isn’t that awesome?  Not only do they post their cute outfits of themselves, they post modest fashions from the runway, fashion designers, and celebrities.  And me wanting to design my own modest clothing line one day, it’s my perfect go-to place to feel inspired.
