Last year i was invited to be a part of a brand new magazine called the A La Mode Magzine for a tutorial for the Anthropologie vintage lace chemise, and it’s now published, check it out! I’m on page 22-23. Thank you Madelyn for the opportunity to be published in such an awesome, useful magazine, I’m so honored!
to purchase a copy, go here.
now onto my DIY project
remember how i modestified summer dresses here?
those two dresses were XL’s so there were a lot of fabric to work with,
but these two dresses i modestified were mediums so i didn’t have much fabric.
so this is a way to add the sleeves when you don’t have much fabric left over.
before: a dress from banana republic in size 6.
(original price was like $120 but i got it for $20!)

1. take the strip you cut off after altering the sides.
2. cut it in half, then sew the two strips together to make it wider.
3. then follow the steps shown here.

Wow. Those are amazing transformations. If I were you, I'd never buy anything full price! You can obviously turn trash into treasure!
I've always wanted to sew and alter things. Mostly because I'm an odd size according to the size chart. Long torso, large boobs, broad shoulders… It leaves me desperately looking for clothes. So how did you get started altering all of these clothes? Do you completely rip the seams from the whole dress to change the fit? Did you take a class? Has someone taught you? Is there a book you would suggest, how did you start because I'm afraid to jump in. I'm a quilter so clothes look so scary!
Wow! i like how your sleeves look, and that was so easy how you did it!
Congratulations on your publication!!
I love seeing women making modest clothes. It's hard to see so many beautiful items without enough coverage and know that I won't ever be making it or wearing it. I really love the gray dress you altered.
Love it! Thanks for the great ideas! I love some dresses, but don't wear sleeveless. Now I know what to do. Thanks!
I love it!
Wow! They turned out so GOOD! Wish I could work my sewing machine as well as you, I guess my creativity too!
