J.Crew lace stripe tissue tee

April 20, 2011~ SEWING

to read my 3 reasons to start sewing, read here.
i’m a part the knock-off series over at kojodesigns for this tutorial for today.
inspiration: J.Crew lace stripe tissue tee $58
in my closet I found this shirt from my last DIY
you’ll need: matching thread, 1.5-2 yards of lace(jo ann’s), pins or liquid stitch
1. lay the lace on the shirt to know the width and cut the lace in four pieces.
2. try the shirt on.  it always looks different when it’s worn than lying flat on a flat surface.
(for ex.: you sew the stripes on straight across only to try it on and find out it’s not due to your body stretching certain parts)
then using pins or liquid stitch, put the lace in 4 horizontal stripes.
3. take the shirt off and sew it across.
after:
i saved over $55!

That looks so cute! Thanks for the idea. I usually don't do horizontal stripes but in lace I might give it a try.

Absolutely love this!! It would be fun to take a white version and dye it an unusual colour. Great inspiration and tutorial. You are always full over great ideas.

I have a white top with lace in several rows from Anthro in my closet. Now suddenly feeling pretty foolish for spending $40 on it! Gah! Your shirt is so cute. How easy. I'll be trying it soon!

I feel awful! I thought I was voting for your blog for the last three days only to find out that I wasn't! But I did today and I will keep it up. Cute shirt, I will have to try this one some maternity tops to help renew them for me.

i've been a fan for ages! and loving this newest tutorial but i have a quick question!

after sewing & embellishing the regular tees, do you hand wash? or throw them in the wash like a normal tee? cos i did that the result was not so pretty!

@zhing: this shirt I will put in the wash and it'll be fine. some others i make, if it's delicate like sequins, i'll hand wash it. and i'm sorry to hear that! when in doubt, always hand wash. it's better to be safe than sorry, πŸ™‚

thanks everyone for your sweet comments! <3

I actually have this lace shirt from JCrew and I love it. The lace is see through so you have to wear a tank top underneath. You did a great job recreating it!
