Sunday best

September 16, 2013~ Etc.

As a stay at home mom, the only times I actually have the reason to dress up, or time and energy to try to look decently nice is on Sundays when I go to church.  I LOVE dresses so I have plethora of dresses(more than any other clothing item I own) but Sundays and occasional weddings are the only chances I get to wear them really, which is a bummer because I feel like I don’t put them in good enough use!  So I’m going to try to wear dresses more often, and if I’m a little over dressed sometimes, oh well, who cares? I will also try to start a weekly post called “Sunday Best” to take pictures of my Sunday outfits.
I found this pretty dress online, and I knew it’d be just a tad too short for me since I’m LDS and I wear garments, otherwise I personally think it’s a great length(shhh, don’t tell my LDS peeps I said that ;), but I knew I could do something about it.
Before:

I debated between getting fuchsia fabric or white fabric to use to lengthen the dress, and decided to go with the white in the end.  I wanted the floral details to be the main focus of the dress and using fuchsia fabric would’ve distracted from that.
I flipped the dress inside out and attached a 4″ width white fabric to the bottom lining of the dress.  Then hemmed the bottom of the white fabric I attached by folding it twice in 1/2″ width.  That’s it!
(don’t look too closely, my bobbin’s been giving me problems and the stitches were looking terrible!)
After:

outfit thanks to: jacket: sheinside(buy it here) | floral dress: choies(buy it here)
I have two more dresses that I want to alter, one dress I want to lengthen, the other dress to add sleeves, so stay tuned!  If I can manage to find some time with my crazy, hectic life with three kids, that is.  Raising three kids is kicking my butt right now.

What a great idea! I've seen those slips that you can put under but I don't like them…I LOVE this!

I love this so much!! Thanks for the inspiration! πŸ˜€ And I can totally relate to the length struggle … I've only been married for two years, so it's still quite new for me to have to be so very conscious of my hemlines. HaHa

Great idea! I always end up wearing little colored spandex shorts under dresses that are borderline, just in case haha

I know, I hate finding a dress I love and then it's like 1-2 inches too short! πŸ˜€

That's funny – I hate dressing up for Sunday Church or weddings. If I can, I always wear a skirt and top, feels less formal than a dress and more business like.. but it's cuz nothing fits and it's such a pain to find dresses that fit right. You don't seem to have that problem – everything looks great on ya!

I like it better with the extra material regardless of length. It has a more finished off appearance. Very Pretty!
