SUNDAY BEST

December 19, 2016~ Etc.

0216e570-75af-46e5-a193-cb602d8b58d5

Yesterday at church I taught the 16-17 yr. old girls in my ward about Zion. A place where people are of one mind and one purpose. This lesson was particularly fitting for me because it was right after my post about comparing myself to others and feeling discouraged on Instagram. We read a talk together called Sisterhood: Oh, How We Need Each Other and this particular excerpt stood out to me.

To be sisters implies that there is an unbreakable bond between us. Sisters take care of each other, watch out for each other, comfort each other, and are there for each other through thick and thin. The Lord has said, “I say unto you, be one; and if ye are not one ye are not mine.”2

The adversary would have us be critical or judgmental of one another. He wants us to concentrate on our differences and compare ourselves to one another. You may love to exercise vigorously for an hour each day because it makes you feel so good, while I consider it to be a major athletic event if I walk up one flight of stairs instead of taking the elevator. We can still be friends, can’t we?

We as women can be particularly hard on ourselves. When we compare ourselves to one another, we will always feel inadequate or resentful of others. Sister Patricia T. Holland once said, “The point is, we simply cannot call ourselves Christian and continue to judge one another—or ourselves—so harshly.”3 She goes on to say that there is nothing that is worth us losing our compassion and sisterhood over. We just need to relax and rejoice in our divine differences. We need to realize that we all desire to serve in the kingdom, using our unique talents and gifts in our own ways. Then we can enjoy our sisterhood and our associations and begin to serve.

The fact of the matter is, we really and truly need each other. Women naturally seek friendship, support, and companionship. We have so much to learn from one another, and we often let self-imposed barriers keep us from enjoying associations which could be among the greatest blessings in our lives. For example, we women who are a little older need what you Primary-age girls have to offer. We can learn much from you about Christlike service and love.

We also talked about the spiritual gifts that we all have. Some have many, some a few, but they all come from God. And the purpose of these gifts to to benefit ALL MEN AND WOMEN as a whole. I think if we changed our mindset from thinking life is a competition and there is only a select few winners, to realizing that there is room for success for every single person and whatever talents that the other person has, it’s purpose is to bless other people, we wouldn’t be so tempted to compare ourselves to others! Life is not a race, and there is a medal at the end for every single person. There is room for everyone. And God gives us talents and gifts so that we could bless the lives of other people. Every single talent a person has, benefits the human race as a whole. It doesn’t just benefit that single person with the talent. It benefits me and you. We are all in this together. We are all in one team. And we all want the same in life; to be loved, accepted and heard. We have way more commonalities with other people than our differences. So instead of comparing and feeling envious and jealous, we should celebrate their talents because that talent makes everyone better and stronger as a whole.

I am usually very good at helping others succeed and sharing all my knowledge and being truly happy for their success. I truly believe there is room for success for every single person. I had to realize though that not every single person can be successful in every single aspect of their life, and I learned that maybe Instagram wasn’t my strength and I have to focus on other places where it shows my strengths more fully.

What do you think about this? Do you sometimes find yourself comparing to others? What helps you in these situations when you find yourself comparing?

I’VE BEEN NEGLECTING MY BLOG

I’ve been sucking at blogging guys. Honestly, it’s because I put all my heart and attention into my Instagram. Because engagement on blogs is dead while the engagement on Instagram is much higher and I feel like I am not talking to myself on there. It’s not all about me and I love reading people’s comments, stories and love checking out their IG feed and learning about who they are. It’s way more intimate and personal on there. But I’ve been feeling discouraged lately on there because most people are cheating the algorithm and buying followers, likes, being in plethora of comment pods and telegram so it makes it seem they have “lots of likes and comments” when it’s not 100% genuine followers commenting. And here is me trying to compete with them but it gets tiresome and discouraging. Another big thing is many times my words exceed their word limit so I have to edit, edit and edit again to fit all my words in. Haha, I guess I sure like to talk a lot! And the 3rd reason is that I want to sew more and focus on doing what I am best at. And in order to grow your Instagram, you have to have beautiful photos, be a niche and have a cohesive, beautiful feed. That is my observation from years of using Instagram and seeing other accounts. So this is an exciting change for me, to focus on my blog and my YouTube channel more, and not put all my time and focus into Instagram like I have been in the past. To sew more. I am still the same exact person and I am a very transparent, open person so I’m still going to be me in any social media platform or the blog or YouTube, I’m just shifting my priorities a little!

The foremost reason for this is that I keep getting an inkling to sew more and strengthen my talents. And also to inspire others to dress modestly and grow my audience so that I can open up my clothing line that offers classy, beautiful and modest clothing for women. And if I am successful at that, I can use the resources to help kids in 3rd world countries. Because that is my biggest goal and the reason why I blog and do any of the things that I do. I’ve never been the person to focus my time on something just to make money so I can be rich, or grow a following(which I don’t care so much about followers than engagement, I block numerous accounts everyday!) so I can get validation from others. In all that I do, I have to have a higher purpose than just the surface reasons. I want to make money so I can help others whom are less fortunate on a bigger scale. I want to grow a following so that I can use that for the good, to share my beliefs and inspire others. IG is tricky because if I didn’t feel the push from the universe to grow my following, I could care less about the numbers. But numbers equal a bigger market which equals more success which equals more people I can help. That is why I care.

Thank you so much for sticking around so far, even when I’ve been the worst blogger and not putting much attention on here. And I have been a flaky person on here like when I promised the Life Lessons series every Friday on here. I am a person of my word and take my words very, very seriously and keep my word no matter what. But on here, I haven’t sometimes. I was thinking about why this is so because it really bugs me that I haven’t kept up my word on here a couple of times and I figured out that it’s because I feel like I’m just talking to myself on here. So when I feel like no one is reading or listening to what I am saying, and I promise something on here, no one is listening so I don’t feel any urgency or responsibility to deliver that promise. Like that promise was void because I didn’t promise it to anyone. Does that make sense? So feel free to say hi once in a while and let me know that you read on here! I want to ask more questions on here so that it’ll be a continued conversation from my blog post, and so that I can get to know you better. So it doesn’t feel like I am just talking to myself.

Thank you for sticking around this far. I am going to bring you more content and one of my goals is to post my family Sunday best photos on here instead of on Instagram every Monday. So for those of you that still have stuck around when I’ve been the worst blogger, thank you. You are seriously the most loyal follower! It means so much to me.

I got invited to attend the press preview of the The Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts Exhibit yesterday but I couldn’t go! I was so bummed. First, my son has been sick so I would feel bad leaving him and having someone watch him while he’s sick, and the travel expense wouldn’t have been covered. But oh, how I wish I could have gone! They sent me these images from the event and I am just feeling the worst FOMO and pretending I was there. They open to the public tomorrow.

GOOD HAIR DAY

December 6, 2016~ Etc.

This post is in part of the monthly series for #JOHNSONS® for Socialstars™. Thank you for supporting me throughout this year on this campaign! Part of the proceeds will go to a service project I am starting, more details to follow.

These are the photos we took of my girls for our family Christmas cards, don’t they look darling? And don’t their hairs look amazing? Now, if only we can all wake up early enough for me to do their hair every morning…

But the days I do get their hair styled, there is one product that we have been using every time. Not just when styling but the girls spray it in their hair before brushing their hair, it untagles so well and makes it brushable so it doesn’t hurt them or get kinks and split ends while brushing their hair. JOHNSON’S® NO MORE TANGLES™ detangling spray is my favorite product that I’ve got to try out throughout this year, it really works so well!

joh2 joh1

It promises:

    • Easy detangling and manageability
    • Goes to work instantly to unlock knots and tangles from your baby’s hair and makes it easier to care for hard to manage hair
    • For use on wet and dry hair
    • Gentle NO MORE TEARS® formula developed specially for the growing years
    • Ophthalmologist-tested and dermatologist-tested
    • Growing hair can tangle easily. JOHNSON’S NO MORE TANGLES® detangling spray goes to work instantly to unlock your baby’s knots and tangles in dry or wet hair for easy trouble-free combing. Make your baby’s hair care manageable and untangled during or after bathtime with JOHNSON’S® NO MORE TANGLES® detangling spray, which provides extra detangling for both wet and dry hair.

Check out their other products, NEW JOHNSON’S® HEAD-TO-TOE® baby cleansing cloths for when you’re out and about and the kids need a quick wash up, and JOHNSON’S® BEDTIME® Moisture Wash to relax them, perfect for bedtime.

Last week, I attended Brunchettes, their very first event for mothers and we all shared things we struggled most as a mother and quickly learned we all struggle with the same things. “I struggle with perfectionism. And never measuring up.”, “I struggle with yelling at my kids and being impatient.”, “I struggle when I’m tired or not mentally well, I’m a bad mom.”, “I struggle that I don’t enjoy being a mother all the time.”, “I struggle with giving up my dreams and choosing to be a stay at home mom.”, “I struggle with being happy in my circumstance.”, “I struggle with comparing myself on social media and feeling jealous.”, “I struggle how my kids bring out the worst in me and made me realize all the imperfections I have that I didn’t know I had before.” The last one was from me. Except it didn’t come out that good, I was crying and mumbling.

If we all feel this at times, if every mother feels inadequate, isolated, unappreciated, impatient, overwhelmed, exhausted and unhappy at times, why don’t we help each other and build and support each other instead of comparing, feeling jealous and judging & tearing each other down? I think if we were all more open to our struggles instead of portraying a “perfect, happy life”, we could achieve that. That is my reason why I’m so open with my struggles as a mother. Because I don’t want people to think my life is perfect and compare. To let mothers know they’re not alone. That we all struggle with the same things after all. So there is no reason to compare, only reasons to love and uplift one another. It’s a really tough job guys. We need to be a team to make it easier, instead of playing against each other and tearing each other down, making it more difficult. #sharingmyheartwithyou
