Every Sunday we have my brother-in-law over for dinner. Sometimes, my parents too. And now that the weather is warmer, it means lots of family BBQ dinners over the campfire! It’s become our Summer family tradition over the years and the kids love it because we always end it with roasted marshmallows.
A few years ago at a friend’s BBQ, they made this sauerkraut using beer and it was so good, so I wanted to try to make it. But you guys, it was a big fail. It turned out pretty gross. So I will not share the gross recipe with you, but I will share our favorite hot dog sauce, it’s the J.Dawg’s sauce! And I will also share a funny story of me trying to buy beer for the first time this past Saturday! It took me 2.5 hours to finally get my dang beer!
Achilles was following all of us like a hawk, hoping for some hot dog!
Yes, we always feed him some of our BBQ food too, he’s part of the family after all!
My 2 year old son is an interesting eater. With certain foods, he nibbles and eats hardly any of it, but with certain foods like hot dogs, he eats a full adult serving! We grilled Hebrew National® All-Beef Franks on Sunday and he loved it so much, he ate two hot dogs, with buns and all the toppings on it! I ate one and I was full! You know that I am very selective with what brands I work with, especially when it comes to food that I will be feeding to my family, and after researching the brand to see if it is something I approve of, I was sold when I read that they’re made from 100% kosher beef and there are no artificial flavors or colors, no fillers, and no by-products. And have you tasted them? They are so delicious! I am usually a Polish sausage kind of a girl, but these Hebrew National® All-Beef Franks are the best-tasting hot dogs I’ve tasted. My husband who is super picky with his taste buds, agreed that they are really good hot dogs. They are pricier than other hot dogs but for quality eating and tasting, they are worth it to our family.
I wanted to make sauerkrauts using beer and it was my first time buying beer and let’s just say it took me lots of drama and 2.5 hours to get a dang can of beer! That is a story for another post and the sauerkrauts I made turned out really gross, so all that work for nothing! Haha, but while the sauerkrauts were a total fail, this J.Dawg sauce was not, and I wanted to share the recipe with you.
After googling many J.Dawg copycat recipes, I decided to go with this one.
J-Dawg Sauce
3/4 cup of ketchup
3/4 cup of barbecue sauce (I like Sweet Baby Ray’s)
1/4 cup of honey
1 tsp. soy sauce
1 tsp. apple cider vinegar
1/2 tsp. onion powder
Directions
1. Mix all the ingredients together and enjoy!
What makes a Hebrew National kosher hot dog premium? It’s all about what makes the cut (And what doesn’t). We’re choosy about what goes into our franks – we use only premium cuts of 100% kosher beef from the front half of the cow and then choose the best from that. No artificial flavors, colors, fillers or by-products. When your hot dog is Kosher, that’s a hot dog you can trust! For more summer fun with Hebrew National, visit facebook.com/hebrewnational.
