Sunday Best

March 30, 2016~ Etc.

sb2

I haven’t done a Sunday best in awhile! This wasn’t my Easter Sunday outfit but it might as well could have been, with all the pastels and florals. I have always loved embroidered clothes, but have learned to appreciate it so much more since 2 years ago when Jay and I embroidered our own sweatshirts for our Disney cruise. We made it for 15 people and it took so long!

Bright Night Event

May 8, 2015~ Etc.

Beautiful photographs by Mckenzie Deakins. She was part of my Vegas trip girls and she is so good at what she does! And so, so hilarious!

This is the fastest post I’ve ever done guys, I just went to Bright Night Event and got back an hour ago! Jay fell asleep with the kids and I had planned on hanging out with him so yeah, I have nothing to do, so thought I’d blog. Don’t you love how I post my Disney cruise trip 8 months afterwards but this event I post literally an hour after it happens? Priorities guys, priorities.
Tonight was so much fun and so inspiring. I loved listening to Brooke White sing and speak, she is such a genuine, humble, funny person and I adore her! I completely fell in love with her. I wanted to talk to her but she had plethora of people in line waiting to talk to her and the delicious pizza they served was calling me so…. yeah priorities guys, priorities.
Also, I’ve NEVER had so many people ask me where I got my outfit. So below is the link to my jumpsuit and also some of my other favorites!

Maleficent birthday party

November 6, 2014~ PARTY

Get some birthday ideas for your party from this Maleficent party with lots of great ideas for food, games and decor.

We watched The Maleficent the opening night and loved the movie.  We probably loved it even more because we watched it on the opening night in no better place than on the Disney Cruise!  As soon as the movie was over my little girl said to me, “I want a Maleficent birthday party mama!”  First of all, when they call me mama with their cute little voice, it’s hard for me to resist.  And second of all, I started thinking of all the ideas for the party in my head and got so excited.

So Maleficent party it was for my daughter’s 7th birthday!  I used Maleficent & Aurora character invitations from MariusDesigns and it couldn’t be more perfect.

My birthday girl wanted to be Aurora for Halloween so I thought we will have her birthday party the day after Halloween.  A terrible idea.  Haha, because it was the busiest week of my life preparing for costumes and the birthday party at the same time.  But it turned our really well and Aurora couldn’t be happier.

Halloween Costumes:
Maleficent wings: The Pink Poudo
Aurora dress: VanessaHM
Aurora crown: Beautiful Bones BowsBb
adult Maleficent dress: Fristrom
Maleficent horns: Gabby Lucha
Dog fairy wings: DoosOddistuffies
young Maleficent dress: DIY by Jay
Diaval costume: DIY by Jay
baby raven costume: DIY by me
my husband wanted to take a picture copying a photo of Diaval and Maleficent below and from a guy who never ever suggests picture taking?  I’ll take it!
Our whole family dressed up for the birthday party and invited the guests to dress up as well.  I didn’t want all the focus to be on Maleficent so I made sure many things were of Aurora such as the Aurora silhouette that I just drew and cut from a black cardboard paper and put on a baroque frame I got from Ikea that I spray painted in black, and the Aurora cupcake toppers that matched perfectly with the baroque frame.

I set the backdrop with the black wall tree decal on a white butcher paper and added a finishing touch by adding a black paper chandelier(I plan on using the wall decal, frame and the chandelier for the girls’ room decor after) and a Maleficent cake topper.

I wanted the table setting to match the backdrop of the tree forest so the plates & stands were all made out of wood, including the wooden candles.  This was the first party where I didn’t make the food and provided pizza from Sam’s Club on two gold glitter tree stumps, my daughter wanted a Oreo dessert bar since that’s her favorite so we had an Oreo ice-cream cake, and fruit tray, and a veggie tray displayed on 3 wood cake stands, Oreo cookies on wood cupcake stands, and Oreo pudding.

The drink was milk poured in vintage milk bottles.  I only needed to make the Oreo pudding and it was so nice!  I might just buy food for future birthday parties from now on. 🙂

The table was decorated with a black tablecloth and the center pieces of a Maleficent Letter “M”, Aurora flower crown, and Maleficent horns.

For games we played “Find raven’s rainbow eggs” where some eggs were stuffed with candy.  They had to get at least 5 eggs or get an egg with a candy in order to receive a Maleficent prize which consisted of a Maleficent and/or Aurora bottle-cap necklace, a Maleficent mirror, and some candies.  They were so excited for this game and they kept asking when we were going egg hunting so this was a big hit with the kids.

Then we had a photo shoot using Maleficent props, and we just scooted the food table to the hallway and used the party backdrop as the backdrop for the photobooth.   I told my husband to think of one game we could play for the party(since I did everything else for the party) but the day came and I asked him if he thought of anything and he said no.  I told him he had 2 hours to think of a game and when the party started and I asked him again, he said no.  So I had planned to play 3 games but we only played 2 games.

Oh, husband.  You’re so lucky you’re such a good husband and a father and make it up in so many other areas. 🙂

We finished the party with opening presents and singing happy birthday to the birthday girl and eating the Oreo ice-cream cake.  When the parents came to pick up their children, they didn’t want to leave!  I think it’s safe to say they had a fun time at the party.

Here’s my deal on writing sponsored posts

June 17, 2014~ Etc.

Hello everyone!
We just got back late last night from a 7 day Disney Cruise to Alaska!  It was such a fun vacation(note that I said fun, not relaxing.  Can you really take a relaxing vacation with 3 little kids?  I don’t think so, I’m exhausted!  But it was so much fun)  I took plethora of pictures and will be posting a ton of them soon, don’t you worry!  I posted some on my Instagram if you want to check it out.
Anyway, I wanted to talk to you guys about what I think about sponsored posts.  A lot of my friends often ask me how much I earn from my blog.  They’re all surprised when I say it’s usually none or it’s only once in a blue moon and not a regular income, and hardly any so I don’t keep track.  I knew I had a lot of page views, enough to make a regular income off of my blog, but I just didn’t know how!  I don’t contact companies often and companies will often contact me to work with them, but I’ve turned many, many down because it’s not something I would buy or fit my personal taste.  Being a person of integrity and authenticity& making my readers happy is far more important to me than any amount of money.  So for about the last 3 years, I didn’t really make money.  I think I wrote less than 5 sponsored posts in my whole 6+ years of blogging?  But I didn’t start this blog to make money and making money will never be the #1 reason why I blog, I promise you that.  I did get free stuff(again, only if it’s something I love and would buy anyway because what’s the point of getting something just because it’s free if it’s ugly or something I would never wear/use/buy?) and I was happy with that.  So while I wouldn’t have minded making money(who doesn’t?), I didn’t know how and it wasn’t in my top priority or I would have attended workshops or read books on how to make money from blogging.  But I never did.
Fast forward to just a month ago when I joined a few FB groups for bloggers.  One of the bloggers wrote on a wall post asking other bloggers what they thought about several companies that connect brands and bloggers together.  I haven’t heard of any of them(which is quiet embarrassing, I feel like I’m still such a rookie!), so I googled them and applied to join some of them.  Since then, I’ve been getting regular opportunities to work with many companies and a whole new world of opportunities has opened up for me!  These companies work like a modeling agency where a brand company reaches out to them and tells them about an opportunity, like when they’re launching a new product and are looking for bloggers to review and spread the word about the product.  Then the company plays middle-man and hand selects bloggers that fit the product(like the Aquafresh toothpaste post I did, they would go through a list of mom bloggers with kids ages 3-24 months) and contact the bloggers with full information.  If a blogger is interested, they’re invited to apply for the opportunity and then the brand company will look through the blogger’s info such as page views, target readers, interests and select the bloggers they would like to work with.  So it’s quiet a lengthy process where three parties are selecting whom they would like to work with and if all three parties like what they see and want to work with all participating parties, then a contract is signed.
So like I stated previously, I’ve been getting a lot more opportunities to work with brands and make some income for my household and I’m pretty excited, I’m not going to lie.  My goal is to be Jay’s sugar mama and my goal is becoming more of a reality!  Haha, but seriously, I am very grateful for the opportunity that I can be doing something I love and make some money on the side.  It’s not going to be a ton of money, just a little extra to put into our savings, or our children’s college fund, or some fun money, as my children call it.  But here is my promise to you.  I will always be real.  I will always be honest.  I will only work with companies I genuinely like and would buy for myself and my family anyway.  If I use a product and don’t like it, I will never promote it on my blog or anywhere else.  When I receive an opportunity, I always read up on it and research the brand, the company, the product, before I agree to working with them.  And only if I think it’s really cool or would love to buy for my family anyway.  I am smart about my money and am very picky and selective on where my money goes and it’s the same with the companies I work with.  I feel like the products I promote to my blog readers goes hand in hand with my integrity, and I will only work with companies that I love.  And one great thing about me writing more sponsored posts is that I feel like can’t slack on writing non-sponsored quality blog posts!  I feel like if I make a little money from my blog, I need to take my blog more seriously and write a lot of quality posts in return.  Before, I didn’t think anything of it if I didn’t post for two weeks, or only once a week, I didn’t feel guilty and thought, who cares?  But now, for every sponsored post, I feel like I need to write at least 5 quality posts.  I don’t want this blog to turn into a for-profit blog and turn all commercial, I will work hard to not let my blog be that way.  Keeping my wonderful readers happy and coming back to my blog is so much more important to me.  So I feel like this is a win-win for both me and you, I will sometimes introduce you to cool products that I love, and I hope you’ll support me in that and I will write quality posts more often.  Which would you rather have, me posting once a week or just sometimes or me writing quality posts on a regular basis and have one sponsored post once in awhile?  I hope you chose the latter.;)  Feel free to share with me what you think, I would love to know!

Thank you for reading my blog, and it’s because of you that I get this opportunity in the first place.  So thank you.  I am so grateful for you!
