Jay is the oldest of 4 kids and I am the youngest of 5 kids. I learned in my psychology class in HS(I guess I did pay attention in High School!) that it’s ideal for the youngest to marry the oldest and vice versa while the oldest marrying the oldest and the youngest marrying the youngest isn’t ideal. A middle child could marry any of the birth order I was told. My dad is the youngest and my mom is the oldest. And they compliment each other and get along very well, so that also helped my belief that it all made sense! The personalities in the birth order are many times spot on, and it makes sense why the oldest would clash with the oldest and the youngest with the youngest. It’s like a red personality would butt heads with another red personality. I feel if one is very bossy and authoritative and stubborn, it would be easier to marry someone who is more submissive and easy going than someone just like them.
The personality of Jay and I are very different. Jay being the oldest of 4, has a stronger personality and hates being told what to do or being wrong. Me as the youngest, I am spoiled(but not a spoiled brat, there’s a huge difference, I promise!) and am used to having other people take care of me or pick up my slack. Jay always tells me I depend on him a lot and the more I think about it, the more I realize how right he is! I depend on him A LOT. I am always texting him asking him where something is, he pays all the bills, he takes care of all the car maintenance and anytime something in the house breaks and needs a fixing, and I wait for him to make the final decision and go along with it(unless I really feel strongly about one thing, then usually, I always get it my way haha). He spoils me a ton and makes my life so much easier.
Jay also has done the taxes every single year in the past 8 1/2 years of our marriage. Never once have I even looked into it or attempted to file our tax return. While the idea of filing our tax return myself sounds empowering and tempting, I never even thought about doing it because it sounds so intimidating and time-consuming! So when TurboTax asked if I’d like to try it out, I thought it was a perfect motivation and the push I needed to try it out myself! And then I actually got excited about doing it. Just a year ago, I started making continual income from my blog. And it feels so empowering! I believe more so for me because I don’t have a College degree yet(I am waiting for all my kids to be in school all day so I can go back, I am so excited!) so knowing that if something were to happen and I became a single mom, I’d be okay and I’d be able to provide for my family. Because if it wasn’t for blogging, I don’t know what other kind of job I could get without a degree that could provide for my family. So it gives me a lot of peace and confidence knowing that if I had to, I could make blogging a full-time job.
But the idea of filing my own taxes still scared me a ton and I found it very intimidating. So I have to admit, I pushed it to the last minute to start filling out my tax return. And guess what? It was so much more simple and easier than I expected it to be! First you start out with a question where you click as many as it applies to you. So you click options that says |SINGLE|HAVE CHILDREN|OWN A HOME|MAXIMIZE DEDUCTIONS OR CREDITS|SOLD STOCK/OWN A RENTAL PROPERTY|SELF-EMPLOYED. You click on as many as it applies to you and they recommend the right product to get to get you started. I was like, hey! I can do that! I know the question to number one! Then I knew question number two, three, four and so forth! They ask one question per page so it’s not overwhelming. Then I typed in my oldest child’s information and a few questions such as did I have her the whole time in the year 2015, did I have joint or sole custody of the child, and then boom! They told me I am eligible for $4,000 of tax return for her. Sweet! And I could also click on the reason why I am eligible for $4,000 for the child and it explains the reason behind it. I am given personalized explanations of why I can get a deduction, credits, or tax refunds.
They have a new featured called SmartLook, which is a new feature that connects customers with live TurboTax experts using one-way video technology. TurboTax experts answer questions in real time for free and help you in anything you need in order for you to complete the tax return. I can connect live in a one-way video so while I see them, they won’t see me so I can talk to them live in my usual look of no make-up, haven’t even brushed my hair, in my sweatpants look!
You guys know how picky and honest I am with products I talk about on this blog or anywhere, and have written negative reviews in the past, but TurboTax is really awesome. I love how easy they make it to file a tax return and will highly recommend it.
So now that our taxes are filed in nice and early. we can relax and not have to worry about it! Jay took me on a pre-Valentine’s date yesterday to the Roof Restaurant, a beautiful restaurant in Salt Lake City overlooking the whole city, and we ate so much Jay was literally in pain. I am grateful for a husband who always takes such good care of me and let’s me be the youngest in the relationship. 😉
