February 18, 2016~ Etc.

#winningatparenting! #nailedit!

My sweet 8 yr. old thought I was mad at her for talking too much. I was mad at her siblings for fighting and whining so much. So I did what any mature, wise mother would do. I sighed heavily and yelled at them to stop fighting!!! and locked myself in my room & played Scramble(gosh, I love that game). We were day 3 into Jay being gone for 5 days(he returned yesterday) and I WAS DONE. Over my maximum capacity and running on empty. I had nothing more to give.

OLDEST AND THE YOUNGEST

February 10, 2016~ Etc.

Jay is the oldest of 4 kids and I am the youngest of 5 kids. I learned in my psychology class in HS(I guess I did pay attention in High School!) that it’s ideal for the youngest to marry the oldest and vice versa while the oldest marrying the oldest and the youngest marrying the youngest isn’t ideal. A middle child could marry any of the birth order I was told. My dad is the youngest and my mom is the oldest. And they compliment each other and get along very well, so that also helped my belief that it all made sense! The personalities in the birth order are many times spot on, and it makes sense why the oldest would clash with the oldest and the youngest with the youngest. It’s like a red personality would butt heads with another red personality. I feel if one is very bossy and authoritative and stubborn, it would be easier to marry someone who is more submissive and easy going than someone just like them.

MY DAD’S 70TH BIRTHDAY PARTY

January 29, 2016~ Etc.

Choi-76 Choi-74 Choi-77 Choi-75

My dad turned 70 years old and in Korean tradition, the children throw their parents a big birthday party on either their 60th, 70th or the 80th. It used to be that the 60th birthday party was the norm, but since people’s life expectancy is longer, 70th birthday party is now just as common. And I am talking about big and fancy as in like a wedding! We rented out a nice reception place, rented tablecloths & floral centerpieces, got a private caterer to serve a delicious 10-dish Korean food, an MC, a program, the works!

My dad had a stroke on a late Christmas evening, after everyone was in bed. My mom woke up around 12:30 am(so on December 26th) to use the restroom and she usually goes right to bed but she decided to go check on my dad who was downstairs in the living room watching television. She found him unconscious and she screamed for help and my sister came downstairs. They tried to carry him so they could take him to the hospital but they couldn’t lift him up. My brothers and our male cousin was at a Star Wars movie so just as my sister was about to call 911 and have the ambulance come take our dad, my brothers and our cousin arrived after watching the movie. It was miraculous timing.

MY HEART BREAKS

January 26, 2016~ Etc.

Whenever I think of my two daughters, this is how I picture them in my head. My oldest with short bob hair, bangs & chubby cheeks, and my younger daughter with her barely-grown-out-from-her-bald-stage hair, both eagerly waiting for me to say go to throwing the water balloons inside the orange bucket one early Fall morning. Before they were old enough to go to preschool so I had them all to myself all day long. Oh, how I miss this stage. And what I wouldn’t give to have just one more day of this stage, so I can kiss their chubby cheeks endlessly, to give all my love and attention to them.
