How Old Are You? part 2

April 9, 2010~ Etc.

Thanks to those that shared their own stories of the “How old are you?” post on Facebook/Blog. They sure made me laugh and I’m so glad you guys can relate! I remembered so many more when I was reading your stories but there’s two that sticks out I want to share with you because it’s really embarrassing.

I was 20 yrs. old when I volunteered at a Intermediate School to help translate for the Korean students in one class. The class was about to start and I sat down and one girl walked in the classroom and sat right in front of me. Then she turned around to look at me and then said in a lowercase Korean(In Korean culture you always speak “uppercase”, more polite form of language to people who are even a yr. older than you), “Hi! Welcome to our school, you must be new! Can I see your schedule to see if we have any of the other classes together?” Umm, excuse me, I’m almost a decade older than you, speak uppercase to your unni(older sister)! ;D

Last story. Jay and I went on a Carnival Cruise to Mexico on our honeymoon. We went kayaking and the guy who was giving us the tour was handing out life vests for all the people. Jay went up to him first and the guy handed him a life vest and then I went to him next and he looked at me and guess what life vest he handed me!

A SPIDER-MAN little kid life vest!!!

What the heck, ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? So I looked at the life vest pile to see if he was out of all the adult size ones and nope!  He had plenty of them.  Jay thought it was the funniest thing ever and kindly reminded me of the story throughout the whole trip. NOT COOL! Both the tour guide and you Jay! tsk tsk.

Hakunamatada- It means no worries

April 8, 2010~ Etc.

This has nothing to do with the post. It just looks so good I wish I had some right now! Animal style fries and cheeseburger mmm! And a strawberry shake please! Oh well, a Fat Boy and a big chunk of brownies will do for now. I also love how Ana and Jay are making the same face. ^ ^
Adalie’s such a sweetheart. Everytime I fix her lunch or dinner, she says to me, “Thanks mommy, this is really good.” Today after dinner she just came up to me, gave me about 6 hugs and everytime she said to me, “Mommy, you’re my best bud. I love you.” And just before bedtime today Jay and I were having a water fight(we like to show our kids by example how mature adults should act;) and I was running away from a huge bucket of water that Jay was holding and as I turned sharply into the bathroom, I slipped on the wet tile and jammed my foot in betweent the tile and the glass scale and I was on the floor half whimpering/laughing. Then I hear Adalie running to me and saying, “Mommy, what happened? Are you okay? It’s okay, I got you. Come on (as she reaches out for my hand and lifts me up), let’s go get a sticker(band-aid) okay?” And she holds my hand all the way downstairs and gets a band-aid and puts it on my foot and kisses it! Aww, how sweet is she!!!
Here is a video of Jay and Adalie singing as Jay was putting her to sleep just a little while ago. All you’ll see is black but what you hear is one of the sweetest things you’ll hear. Aw, I love my family!

How Old Are You?

April 5, 2010~ Etc.

My whole life I’ve looked younger than my age. I remember the first day of elementary school I was holding hands and walking with my mom, someone said to her, “Oh your little daughter is so cute and little! She’s entering Kindergarten?” I remember the day I turned 13, a true teenager, I was so happy and felt so cool and mature until a girl asked me, “How old did you turn today?” I said to her proudly, “Thirteen.” Then she said to me, “Oh I thought you were like 9.” Nine? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Maybe 12, heck I would even take 11 at this point but 9?  A single digit?  I remember feeling so embarrassed and hurt.

Well, little did I know it was only the beginning of endless comments as such. On my mission when my companion and I would knock on doors to proselyte and introduce us as the missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, more often than not the person would look at my companion and then me and say to me, “Are you old enough to be a missionary?”
The biggest shock was on P-day(one day a week the missionaries get a day to relax, do laundry, grocery shop and such) we would go to the library to e-mail our friends and family and we signed up on the waiting list for the computer. The librarian called my name so I went up and she looked at me and said, “You have to be 16 to use the computer, dear.” I looked at her and said, “I’m 22.” Then the lady and the other lady next to her looked at each other and laughed out loud! They thought I was joking. When I smiled back at them and told them I wasn’t joking, they looked surprised and had this conversation right in front of me:
Lady 1: “She cannot be 22 years old!”
Lady 2: “Yeah she looks like she’s about…”
Lady 1: “Hmm…she looks like she’s about… 12.”

TWELVE??? I told them you had to be at least 21 to be a missionary for girls and they STILL made me go back to my car to get my I.D! Only after they looked at my birthdate of my license did they believe me and let me use the computer.

Well, now that I’m married and I’m a mother of two kids, I thought it would stop. When I went to Korea last year and everybody was so shocked that I had two kids and would say, “A baby had a baby!”, or “I thought you were in High School!” Literally every single person I met, not kidding you. But I thought since people in Korea get married late and have kids later, that made sense.

Well, this year in the year 2010, I’ve already had 3 instances.

1. I got hit on by a boy who looked no older than 16 at my Orthodontics. Yeah, enough said.

2. Then a few weeks ago a mailman came knocking on our door. I opened the door and he looked at me and asked me if my parents were home. I told him I was the mother of the household and after a slight pause he then asked me, “Well, are you 16 or older? you have to be at least 16 to sign this.”

3. Then just today. This photographer asked me if she could use me to take High School senior pictures to promote her work.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

I even asked Jay one time, “Do you look at me as a woman or a little girl?” haha. I don’t know whether to be flattered or offended? I want to look like a woman! Not a little girl! shesh.

I guess me dressing up as a HS cheerleader doesn’t help my image.
But I’m a mother of two kids, I swear!

April Fool’s

April 2, 2010~ Etc.

Meat loaf+mashed potatoes “cupcakes”

I played a few jokes yesterday for April Fool’s. It’s so not fair because I’m such a gullable person(the worst thing I fell for you ask? In HS, my friend convinced me it was the year 2001 when it was really 2002 and I believed her for about 3 months until someone asked me why I was putting “2001” instead of “2002” on the date of my school assignmnet. You know who you are! Tsk tsk.) and Jay is not gullable. AT ALL. So all three of my jokes fell through with him:

1.I put yellow food coloring in the milk so it looked rotten which he didn’t even realize as he poured some for Adi and didn’t say a thing. 🙁
2.I put jello in the gatorade bottle and emptied the gatorade in a cup which he saw in the kitchen. 🙁
3. I made “cupcakes” that were really meatloaf+mashed potatoes and as I gave one to Adi Jay asked me if it was really cupkes and I started snickering and laughing so he knew something was up even before he took a bite. Shucks, I need to learn to control my laughter and be a better liar!

Gatorade
