the race to the hunt begins…

the company jay works for hosted an easter egg hunt a couple days ago, which was very smart to do  before all the crazy easter egg hunts begins.  why do they all host them on saturday at 10 a.m, so you can only go to one of them?  oh, maybe that is exactly why they do that, haha.  but i’ve managed to schedule us in 3 easter egg hunts this saturday, and the kids couldn’t be more excited.
i’m grateful for the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ and his immaculate love for each one of us.  i love him.

my interview with alison sweeney.

Thanks to Molly from Yoplait,
i had the privilege of having a phone interview with Alison Sweeney, an
actress from the days of our lives and the host for the biggest loser.  She’s also the author of the mommy diet, and a mother of two young kids. 
I got nervous the day before when I was coming up with what questions to
ask her but with the help of you readers and friends, i was able to ask her many
good questions(I asked every single question asked by all of you!).  So thank you for your
input everyone! 
Here is the interview with Alison Sweeney.
1.     How do you find balance between your work, kids,
and exercise? 
It’s hard to balance because
attention is needed in so many different directions, so it’s a learning experience.
 I would say the key is planning ahead and making clear choices in my
schedule.  Like taking sneakers with
me to work so that on my way home after work, I go work out, and there’s
no excuse so it gets done.  I bring healthy snacks with me to work so
when times like today, someone brought red velvet cupcakes for everyone at
work. I almost had one but then I remembered I had red velvet cupcake
flavored Yoplait so I ate that instead. It tastes like red velvet cupcakes so I
was satisfied eating that and that simple choice saved me a few hundred
calories.  
2.     What is your favorite healthy family dinner
recipe?
Grill fajitas, or a healthy
stir fry.
3.     What is your favorite go-to snack when you get
the munchies?
Yoplait light!  It’s tasty, I know the exact calories I’m
taking, I can take it on the go, and it gives me the satisfying, dessert
feeling.
4.    
What is
your favorite Yoplait flavor?
I go through phases, right now
it’s boston crème pie.  Last month was
red velvet cupcake.
5.    
What is
your exercise routine? 
A combination
of everything.  I do 4-5 days of cardio, I
do spin classes, I run, I also do strength training, yoga, so a little bit of
everything.
6.     You recently finished the LA marathon,
congratulations!  You said at 21 miles, that was your toughest time. 
What motivated you to keep going? 
I did a lot of soul searching.  I asked myself questions like, why did you do
this?  Why are you here today?  You
and your big mouth and telling everyone about the marathon!     I
had to pep talk with myself on what’s important to me and why I wanted this
goal.  I said to myself, wait a
second, you already ran 21 miles, you only have 4 more miles left.  Also, the volunteers cheering my name,  and rooting for me helped me a lot.
7.     How did running a marathon transform your body?
I’ve been feeling fit
for a couple of years, but after the marathon my muscles are more lean and
toned, I have more of a runner’s body, and I feel stronger. 
8.      What is one advice you could offer to working
mothers?
So many are pulling us in all directions
at all times and we feel the weight on our shoulder, so it’s hard to make time
for yourself, but it’s so important to make time for yourself.  Working
out gives you more energy, helps you to have positive energy and better mood,
so that is my advice, to work out.
9.      What is your secret to success, since you are
a successful career woman?
The idea of taking the
opportunity that comes in my way.  I live
in a motto of don’t have any regrets so even if I have 10 opportunities all in
one week, I’d rather have tried to make it all work and fail then to miss a
chance and regret.  Life is full of once in a lifetime things so take it
before it goes away.
10.  What is your favorite thing about being a
mother?
When they smile or laugh. 
11.
What is
your least favorite thing about being a mother? 
Times when it’s not fun, when I
have to discipline her and work on her manners, when it’s not smooth
going.  Being a working mom, it’s hard to come home when they’re cranky
and you have to deal with it, and you cannot wait until the next day.
12.  What’s your take on the pressure from the
media to “look a certain way”?
It’s hard being in this
industry, in the fashion industry, but we do it to ourselves, like the saying
men invented high heels but it’s the women that wear them.  We choose to wear high heels.  I think we should teach our  daughters  and take on themselves what they take from
magazines, like great inspirations and what the magazine has to offer, like
from the Shape magazine, learn good tips, how to live a healthier lifestyle but
not get down on yourself because you don’t look like them. 
13. What’s your take on having a
health body image? 
Setting realistic goals for
yourself.  It begins and ends with having confidence and  making healthy choices.  Once I started
having a healthy lifestyle and seeing the changes in my body that I worked hard
for, I feel confident and have a healthy body image because I did it, I worked
hard for it, it’s not the best body in the world, but it’s mine and I worked
hard for it.  It’s taken me 35 years to come
to this feeling, I was not as confident when I was 22.
14. Having read somewhere that you
had struggles in the past with your weight, how were you able to overcome this
hurdle? What gave you the strength to overcome this?  
For me, it ’s not a hurdle,
it’s a lifelong commitment.  I stopped
looking at it like I want to get to x lbs. and I’ll be happy, but I have to
realize I can be happy today.  Today for
lunch, I’ll eat healthy and feel good today.  It became more attainable
after thinking like that, and then the body followed.
15.  Do you
ever work out with the people on the Biggest Loser?
I do work out with Bob and
Jillette, I train with the contestants a lot.
16.  Do you
ever want to smack the contestants in their heads when they’re being whiney?
Of course.  I feel the
same emotion audiences feel when they watch.  I try to be a friend and
root for them equally but it’s such an opportunity for them so what gets me
under the skin is when they don’t make the most out of the opportunity that’s
been presented to them. 
17.  In order
to be the host, do you have to adhere to strict guidelines such as your weight?
 
No, the producers have never
talked to me about weight, ever.  They believe in healthy living and being
a good role model, and we live what we talk about, which is  balanced living. 
18.
What is
your favorite thing about being the host of the Biggest Loser and why?
It allows me to meet fans who
have been inspired by the show.  That is
my favorite thing, I get so touched.
19.  What is your favorite memory from the Biggest
Loser and why?
Buddy lost 100 lbs. and that
number was meaningful because that’s the number he’s lost since his daughter
had died.  Weight loss was an awakening experience and a success for him
and the point in turning the new chapter in his life.  He’s a wonderful
person and to celebrate with him and be there for him was such a special moment
for me.
20.  Who was the most inspiring contestant? What
was inspiring about him/her?
They all have been inspiring to
me but if I had to choose, it would be Hannah and Olivia from season 11. 
They’re just amazing woman, they made tough choices, to save their lives, to
make a change for the people around them and they were wonderful.  They continue to live healthy after the show,
working really hard and enjoying it.  They still took the time to enjoy
every journey and process of the show.

hand-me downs

since ana is the younger sister and only a year younger than adi, she hardly gets new clothes and she mainly wears hand-me downs, like these shoes.  i mean, if there was a huge age gap between them, i think i would buy her more clothes but it’s not like kids’ fashion changes in a year, you know?  but i make sure to buy her some new clothes once in awhile and when i do, she absolutely loves it and wants to wear it every single day for a few weeks, like this dress.

p.s. speaking about kids’ fashion, thanks to this lovely blog i found out about target’s harajuku line by gwen stefani, and i love it!  i will have to visit target very soon. 🙂

all about jay.

i feel like i talk about my girls all the time but i don’t talk about my husband much.  so here is a post all about him, and no one else.  here are 5 reasons out of many on why i’m grateful for him.
1.  i’m grateful for his sense of humor.  he is HILARIOUS.  the funniest person i have ever met.  this picture above was taken a few days ago at the BYU luau when we sat next to our friends wayne and mary.  mary wanted to take a picture of just them two, on their special date night without their 3 kids, but guess who didn’t care and decided to join in on the picture!  i’m grateful he makes me laugh out loud numerous times everyday.  
2.  i’m grateful he always knows when we’re in need of more toilet paper.  we’ll be shopping at the grocery store and he’ll say, “oh, we need to buy more toilet paper, we only have 2 more rolls!”  he realizes this every single time and i have yet to realize this before he does.  he does the same thing with the detergent, fabric softener, dish washer detergent, and dish soap.  
3. i’m grateful for his sensitive soul.  he looks so tough and manly, which he is plenty, but he’s also such a sweet, sensitive, caring guy.  and not ashamed to admit he cries.  and why do i have this picture of charly?  you should ask my husband. 😉
4. going on with being sweet and sensitive, i’m grateful that while he may not look it, he’s the girl in the relationship in many ways.  i’m usually the one saying, “i can’t read your mind!  you need to tell me how you feel.”  which he says, “if you really love me, you would know without me telling you…”  or the time i forgot about our 1st anniversary and when he mentioned it i said, “oh, sorry… it’s just a date, not a big deal…”  and he said to me, “it is a big deal.  it means we’ve been married for one year.  one year of memories, one year of love…”  yeah, i felt terrible after that.  he’s like a sweet old lady in a manly man’s body.  hahaha
5. i’m grateful at how protective he is of me and our girls.  if you mess with me, you better be ready to take on my man!  he will literally beat you up.  or if you’re a woman, he might grab you and dump you in the trash can.  not joking.  don’t know if i’m grateful about what he’ll do to someone that messes with me, but i’m grateful at how i feel completely safe and at ease with him by my side.
i’m grateful for you, jay.  i love you heaps.

korean culture night.

my mom, adalie and i performed at the UVU korean culture night(my mom and I took some Korean dance classes in korea when i was a little girl). adalie did a short(very short, like 20 seconds) drum performance and then my mom and i danced a korean dance called arirang. even though i got very sick two days before so i was feeling really crappy and we only practiced for 3 days, it was worth it to see adalie perform. this girl is born to be a performer!

i wish we had taken pictures of us but as soon as it was over, we headed home and i went to bed!
