I want to be upfront and honest here, I am not the best person to ask for skincare. You didn’t expect me to say that, on a blog post called “My Beauty Secrets”, did you? Haha. You guys, most of the time I don’t even wash my face at night! I know I know, it’s terrible! But now that I am in my 30’s and noticing fine lines and how my skin isn’t as good as it used to be, I’ve gotten so much better at taking care of my skin. I still don’t wash my face 70% of the time, but it’s better than 99% like before! Right? And to continue the giveaways going on this week as a thank you for being an awesome reader, I have asked one of my favorite skincare products PMD to give one of you your own PMD personal microderm, so make sure to enter the giveaway! I bought these devices for my mom and my sister last year for Christmas, they really work.
My 7 Beauty Secrets
1. I don’t wear powder or foundation.
except on special occasions or once in awhile when my nose is looking shiny or red, I lightly powder it on my nose. I use Bare Mineral powder when I do use powder, or mix 1/2 lotion + 1/2 BB cream when I use foundation, which is when I’m going to a party or have a photo shoot, which isn’t often. I know with Bare Mineral powder, they say it’s so good for your skin, you can sleep with it and it won’t ruin your skin, or it’ll actually make your skin better, but come on! That can’t be true! Not wearing anything and letting your skin breathe and have your pores not be clogged with any form of powder or liquid has to be the best for your skin. My mom always told me that the people that wear powder or foundation, once they start wearing it, they can’t stop. And when you don’t have it on, you look so different. I like the fact that I don’t look much different without makeup, I prefer the barely there, clean and natural looking face. I’ve noticed that people that don’t wear powder or foundation regularly are the ones that have the best skin and they age way more gracefully than the ones that do. Look around and think of the people you know. You’ll most likely agree with me!
2. Coconut oil as a moisturizer + makeup remover.
I get a q-tip, dip it in coconut oil and remove my eye makeup with it. Coconut oil is natural, has so many health benefits, and helps to moisturize the skin so well, it helps to fight lines & wrinkles. Plus, you get this healthy glow from using it. I also put a tiny dab on my hand and melt it and mix it with lotion and put it on my face and neck. Just make sure to exfoliate your skin if you’re using oil, so it doesn’t clog up your pores or you get little tiny bumps on your cheeks like I did. This was a tip I learned from an aesthetician and sure enough, my bumps went away as soon as I started to exfoliate my skin.
3. I wash my face with a Clarisonic.
I own the Mia 2. But I hear Mia 1 is just as effective. I used to own an Olay one that was about $20 from Costco, but after talking to an aesthetician, she said since the Olay device moves in complete full circle, it opens up your pores bigger, which made sense to me. But the Clarisonic spins left to right, never in a full circle which prevents from your pores getting wider. I love the Clarisonic. When I do use it, my skin looks so clean and fresh afterwards. You can even test it for yourself, wash your face with a cleanser and your hands and then get a cotton ball and use a toner on your face. You’ll still get makeup and dirt on the cotton ball. Try it after using a Clarisonic and you hardly see any dirt! It’s safe to use daily, morning and night but I just use it at night to remove my makeup. In the morning, I just wash my face with water, since I don’t need to remove any makeup.
4. I use Nu Skin moistrizer + lavender + frankincense + jojoba oil every day and night.
This is one thing I am good at, putting lotion on my face. Utah is so dry that if I don’t put lotion on, my face feels so tight and dry which is a feeling I cannot stand! So I use this lotion in the morning and at nighttime. I even put it on at night even if I didn’t wash my face, that’s how religious I am with face lotions. The lavender calms and soothes any skin irritations, and frankincense is known for it’s anti-aging effects. Jojoba oil is one of the best oils you can use for your face, so I mix 4 drops each of the essential oils, then about a tsp. of the jojoba oil and mix it into the lotion. I also recently found out that lavender + frankincense oil is really good for scars! So I get scars sometimes from pimples that doesn’t go away(welcome to the 30’s I guess), so I put the oils directly on the scar and even after 3 days, I noticed a big difference. When my sun gets eczema, I put this lotion on him and it works really well. I am a essential oil believer guys! Even though my husband WILL NOT even give it a try and rolls his eyes whenever I put it on the kids.
5. I put sunscreen on my face and neck everyday.
The sad thing is, the SPF wears off in 2-3 hours so you are suppose to reapply every couple of hours, but who’s got the time for that? There are SPF powders you can put on your face, which I love the idea of since you don’t have to remove your makeup, apply the sunscreen and then put makeup back on(because that is just not realistic), but those powders are too expensive. So I just put it on in the morning or before I go outside, whether it’s rain or shine, Winter or Summer. I hear wearing sunscreen is THE BEST THING you can do for healthy skin and anti-aging. So I’ve been wearing sunscreen everyday since I was 18 or so. I also hear that SPF 50+ doesn’t necessarily work much longer or better than the lower SPF’s(read the article here). I use a Nu Skin sunblock face & body lotion because my husband works there and it’s free.
6. I use a flat pillow or no pillow at all.
Flat pillow as in like 2″ or lower, or no pillow at all, and I sleep on my back. It sounds weird, and I am not sure if it works, it’s just my personal theory so you can take it or leave it but my theory is, sleeping is very important and it helps with wrinkles because when you’re up, your head is up in a vertical position which means the gravity pulls downwards on your face. But when you’re lying down, your face is in a horizontal position and the gravity is pulling down from the back of your head, which has this “pull effect” like a face lift procedure. If you use a high pillow, then your head is angled downwards, where the gravity can still pull down from the angle of your chin. So I use a flat pillow or no pillow at all, and try to sleep on my back most of the time. Sometimes I just want to cuddle my babies and fall asleep or sleep on my stomach(that is my favorite way of sleeping!) but then your face is all squished during the night which causes wrinkles. Anyway, you should try it, it’s comfortable!
7. I use PMD once a week.
I found out about the PMD system when I was googling for best skincare secrets and one article recommended it. Basically what it does is, you turn it on and go around all over your face in a circular motion, and it takes off the dead skin on your face and helps to brighten, smooth, even skin tone & texture, reduce the appearance of blemishes, lines, wrinkles, and enlarged pores. After I use it, I notice that my skin looks brighter, it gives it this healthy glow, and it helps with my texture a lot. My skin isn’t as smooth as it used to be and it started getting uneven texture around my cheeks but using this, it went back to being smooth. You can watch the video on how to use it here.
I never heard of it before so before buying it, like I do with every big purchase, I researched and read online reviews like crazy. And PMD has super high reviews of very happy and satisfied customers. So I felt good about purchasing the systems for my sister and my mom for their Christmas presents last year. I love that it is super simple to use and very fast, you only need to use it once a week(you shouldn’t use it more than once a week) and it takes 2-3 mins. That’s it! That’s my kind of skincare! I am so not high maintenance when it comes to beauty regimen so sparing 2-3 mins. once a week is no problem for me. I do it on a Sunday morning before I get ready to go to church. Even after one treatment, I can tell that my skin is brighter and looks younger, with my skin texture more smooth. I highly recommend this product, and wish I could buy it for all of my family members!
I’m excited to offer one lucky winner his/her own PMD personal microderm, valued at $159. To enter, fill out the rafflecopter below. Best luck everyone!

not sure I have a beauty secret…my skin isn't the best. But, like I'm sure you've all heard for years, I do notice a big difference when I get sleep versus when I only get a few hours of sleep for a few nights.

I really like the way you describe. A good body lotion is an essential part of a good skincare regime. So i regularly use sakare's body lotions.

Love all your tips! And I have to agree about not using a pillow. I love sleeping on a firm pillow and I enjoy sleeping on my left side. My left cheek ends up being pushed upward thus causing a wrinkle right above my cheekbone. I don't know if that made sense but I feel like it'd help prevent wrinkles too (depending on how you usually sleep) but sometimes I do find it comfortable sleeping without a pillow!

Exfoliating is a must and living in Utah really does dry out my skin so I moisturize every morning and night. I also use a face mask once a week which not only helps my skin but it's also nice to relax for a while.

I love using coconut oil, especially as a body moisturizer after showering. Another thing I use that does wonders for my skin is witch hazel! I use a baby wipe for sensitive skin to remove my makeup at night, and then go over it with witch hazel on a cotton ball. For my sensitive skin it really seems to help. In the morning I use the witch hazel on a cotton ball again and then put on my sunscreen and go!

Thank you for mentioning those facts about sunscreen! It's true, you have to reapply every few hours, and SPF over 50ish really doesn't make a difference. I think you shared lots of great tips here. I do most of them except haven't heard of the PMD. I'd love to win and try it!
