Sunday Family Selfie + Mission Story

February 9, 2016~ SUNDAY MISSION STORY

sb1

As good as a selfie gets with a life with a 2 yr. old! #tyausunday

Now onto my #sundaymissionstory, only a few more of these!

We were teaching this couple that had 5 kids together and lived together but weren’t married to each other. The first time we visited them, A was so stand off-ish, and I could tell she was not happy with her life, nor was she happy we were there. While we visited with them, I noticed how condescending C was to A. He was very authoritative and bossy towards her and showed no respect towards her. He talked for 40 mins. about how she steals money, she lies, and other past transgressions to us, right in front of her! But most of all, he had a problem with her because she refused to go to our church, or to read the Book of Mormon. He was very angry at her for that.

I opened my mouth and felt impressed to tell him, “C, you are pushing her to the wall. You need to stop forcing her. You need to respect her free agency and stop trying to play Satan by taking her agency away. You are shoving A to the corner and she feels like she is stuck. She feels suffocated, and she’s screaming for help! Let her be and try to be an example by your actions, not just with your words. That will speak louder than anything else.”

When I finished speaking, Angie started to cry like a baby. When we left, she thanked us for coming. When we went back a week later, she opened the door and smiled when she saw us. She was happy to see us this time! She said to us, “After you Sisters left last week, I opened up the Book of Mormon and started reading it. This is the first time I ever read the book even though C had been pushing me to read it for the past 4 years. And I’ve been reading it everyday since. I’d like to come to church with my 5 kids.”

Heavenly Father told me what to say to C and even though I was surprised at how blunt I was(I mean, I basically told him he’s acting like Satan guys.😳😬), I trusted God and followed him. When we follow the Spirit, no matter how scary or inconvenient or embarrassing it may seem, we can never lose. We always win in the end, no matter what.
