I am an extroverted introvert. As much as I love being around loved ones, my way to recharge is through being alone.
So one of the challenges I face with motherhood is that I don’t get much alone time. Sometimes I want to scream because I feel so smothered. Sometimes I sigh heavily because I lose my train of thought and can’t focus. I stay up late at night every night because that is the only time I am alone.
But my kids love me. And their love is so pure and beautiful. Which probably is why they NEVER get sick of me. Even if I spend all day with them and sometimes yell and lose my patience, they want more of me. They truly never get sick of me.
And suddenly, I realize feeling smothered is a blessing. What an honor that my kids love me so much, they are never tired of me. What a gift that kids have so much love to give, they always have more to give.
So instead of sighing or feeling smothered, I will soak up this moment. Because it’s sure to not last forever. Soon they will think their friends are way cooler than me. They will get embarrassed by me. And they will get sick of me. So until then, I will smother them right back. And enjoy every moment I have with these darlings of mine.
