MY BOY’S HALF BIRTHDAY

February 20, 2016~ Etc.

Since half birthdays are a huge milestone and a big deal for my kids(“No, mom! I am six and a HALF!” every time I tell people my daughter’s six), we celebrate half birthdays by going to the dollar store where they can each pick out two items and then we go get a little treat. Our son recently saw a cupcake eraser at his sisters’ book fair and thought the frosting was ice-cream so he’s been asking for a few days for an ice-cream cupcake. So we went to Coldstone for their ice-cream cupcakes.

“Happy half birthday to you, happy half birthday to you, happy half birthday to you, happy half birthday to you!” The girls and I kept singing to him all throughout the day and he was loving it. He didn’t know what a half birthday meant and he just thought it was his full birthday. And he couldn’t care less that on his “full birthday” he just got $2 worth of toys and a cupcake. He was the happiest and so excited about it! He kept saying, “It’s my birthday! YAY!!!” It reminded me of how little kids are not materialistic and they delight in such simple joys of life. And they only care about receiving attention, protection, and love from the ones they love! And the basic necessities of course. And candies here and there. But nothing more than that. I believe that tells us that little kids are so pure and so un-tainted by the world and they only care about what is truly important in life, which is love. Family. Time. I need to become more like my son. I have no problem delighting in the simplest things, the smallest things make me giggle and giddy, but I can work on the materialistic side, I mean I wouldn’t mind having my dream house and a Babylock self-threading(what!!??) serger now. 😉

Happy two and a half birthday my boy. I sure love you with my whole heart and then some.
