This is my next sewing project I am tackling. Any guesses on what I’ll be making?
And am I the only one that feels like there’s just way too much social media apps? Facebook, blog, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Snapchat, Pinterest, Periscope, Facebook Live, and the upcoming YouTube Live. I didn’t get Instagram for a long time because I was thinking, “Who cares about me that much? No one cares about me that much and how can I keep up with another social media, I am on the internet way too much as is. We live in such a narcissistic world! No one cares about what I ate for lunch today!” And was a little anti at first but then Instagram replaced blogs pretty much on engagement and it’s the go-to place now and so important for businesses. So now I am regretting not joining sooner! Then soon, Snapchat came out and I dabble on it here and there maybe once a week, if that. And then Periscope came out and I didn’t get it(I still don’t get Snapchat and Periscope that disappears after 24 hrs., it just makes social media seem so much of a bigger waste of time that you spend so much time doing it, only to have it disappear! What the heck?!!) but then I read an article about how Periscope retains your followers and you form a more intimate, trusting relationship with them and I really like that idea of a more personable, engaged, approachable relationship so I have been thinking about doing one, but then I hear now that Facebook Live is killing Periscope in numbers and just like Periscope killed off Meerkat, YouTube Live is projected to kill off Periscope. AHHHH! Technology moves too fast, slow down!
Then I see bloggers and influencers snapping their entire day and lives out to the internet, blogging, then snapping 40 times throughout the day, then Instagramming everyday, and I am thinking, “Do they ever get off their phones? They are on their phones all day long!” and then I get sick of social media even more, because we should live out our lives not through the lens of the camera, but to really be in the moment and LIVE! I go to events and instead of talking and engaging with me, so many are on their phones posting on IG and Snapchat of the event. “LOOK AT ME!!! TALK TO ME! Look into my eyes and engage with me!”
But then I quickly remember I too am obsessed with my phone, not really social media but for checking my emails. Yes, I check my emails constantly, it’s a habit I am working really hard on to break.
I have thought many times that maybe I’ll just get those old school phones where you can only call and text. Those were the simpler days!
Anyway, this is me just venting with not really any conclusion. What do you think about social media? Are we on our phones way too much? And the important question, did it really happen if we never post it on social media? 😉
Right there with you Sarah! I have been focusing on Instagram mainly as I enjoy it the most, the other hoard just get a new post when a blog post goes live. I have been thinking about periscope but know nothing about it…I think i’ll wait a while and see if it lasts lol! But it does all get too much with so many. It’s hard to find the time to actually blog, sew and write tutorials! I think it’s probably good to concentrate and do a good job on two (I’d say one but all your eggs in one basket doesn’t sound right either) rather than a rush job on all of them.
p.s. capital letters aren’t working
LOL Nevermind it looks like the capital letters do show once you post your comment!
I feel you. I have been trying to step away from it a bit lately. I don’t even feel inspired to create anymore, I’m just overwhelmed…
I wonder how some people even have time for their family…
I wish for simpler days.
Me dull. You smart. That’s just what I neeedd.
It’s a joy to find somonee who can think like that
