FCC, I got a problem with you

April 9, 2013~ Etc.

FCC, Federal Communications Commission announced it is considering dropping current broadcast decency standards that ban explicit profanity and “non-sexual” nudity.
“Specifically, if enacted, the new FCC policy would allow network television and local radio stations to air the f-word, the s-word and to allow programs to show frontal female nudity, even during hours when they know children will be watching and listening.”
If you ask me, I think that’s ridiculous.  I want my children to grow up in a society that will honor the standards of morals and integrity, no matter what time or age.  I want the outside environment to support what I’ll be teaching in my own home as much as possible, not contradict it.
If you think so too, you can take action by taking a few minutes to submit your comment. Click here to read the instructions and submit a comment.

Done and done. Thank you for informing me! It would be such a shame if this were enacted.

Why not have the kiddos stop watching television? They are going to hear those words in the real world regardless if it's on television or not and TV is horrible anyway. 😉 I was in a sociology course and we had a project where we counted the number of violent scenarios on random television programs. The most violent? Spongebob.

Haha, Spongebob is terrible, I don't let my kids watch that. Television can be wonderful or terrible, just like any other media like music. To completely ignore television because it offers some bad things is like not sending them to school because they're going to hear swear words anyway. I know some kids grow up without a t.v but they watch appropriate videos, movies, Netflix, Hulu, i-Pad which is the same thing as me letting my kids watch appropriate shows on t.v and they will sooner or later watch it somewhere else like their friend's house. I can control what they watch now or listen to on the radio but what about later on as they get older? If they hear it on t.v and the radio, they will become even more desensitized. I heard swear words at school sometimes but that was pretty much the only time I heard it or been around anyone that said it. And the standards for the media isn't just for the kids, it's just as much for adolescents and adults. I don't want to browse the channels and hear swear words or see frontal nudity(isn't the frontal worse that the back nudity? I find that so odd). And why are they making frontal nudity just for women ok? Is men's private part more important so they can't show it?

Anyway, I appreciate you sharing your insights. While we disagree, I see your point of view and I love hearing about other people's opinions. 🙂

As a fellow LDS, I'm with you. I watch Glee with my 14 year old and I'm starting to think we shouldn't watch it anymore.

PS Do you know what you're having? :>

I don't think they should allow cussing but I do think it's silly to be so shocked by non-sexual nudity. I think breasts should be allowed on tv. Maybe then people wouldn't think breast feeding was lewd behavior.

I wish they could reduce the amount of violence and immoral behavior on kids shows, but I guess if more of us choose to tune out from those sort of shows they'll quit making them.
