Curing morning sickness

July 23, 2013~ Etc.

Some people have asked me what helped me during my morning sickness.  I tried many things to cure it and here are some things I’ve tried that didn’t really work.
•• Ginger ale – not a fan and it didn’t help.
• Preggie pops – it seemed to help for about 20 mins. but it might just be a placebo effect and it didn’t taste good enough for me to continue eating them.
• Essential oils – the smell was too strong and it didn’t really help.
• Lemon – didn’t help but I liked the sour taste.
• Eating many smaller meals a day – I still threw up and felt nauseous all day.
But thank goodness for medicine, I was finally able to find some that worked!  It really works!
  • Vitamin b-6 – this pill alone made me morning sickness free for 2 weeks.  But then after 2 weeks, I started throwing up and feeling nauseous so I added these other two to the mix.  I took one full pill(50mg) a day.
  • Ondansetron –  This is the generic version of Zofran.  I took literally 1/8-1/10 of the pill or else it would make me really sleepy.  The first time I tried this pill, I took the whole thing and it knocked me out for almost a full day.  I took this every 4-5 hours.
  • Promethazine- I also took about 1/8-1/10 of one pill of this or else it would make me sleepy or constipated.  I forget which, but both are not good by my standards.  I took this every 4-5 hours.

It took me 3 weeks to figure out the portion control for the last two meds after many trial and error.  I would show people how I would cut up these two pills in tiny, tiny pieces and how small of a portion I took it and they were all surprised that such a tiny amount(it was more like a tiny crumb) could even make a difference.  But it did, and I’ve told my other friends about it and some who didn’t listen and took the full pill or even 1/2 a pill of these two, they all told me it made them really sleepy and it knocked them out for at least several hours.  I know it all depends on your metabolism, weight, height, what not, but one of my friend was 5’9″ and it still knocked her out so start out small, at least 1/4 a pill.
Anyway, these pills really saved me from the horrible morning sickness and I just wish I had found out about it sooner.  It would’ve saved almost 2 months of being practically bed ridden!  So hopefully this post will help someone else.
What morning sickness remedies have you tried that worked or didn’t work for you?

OXO getting ready for baby!

July 23, 2013~ Etc.

OXO sent me some products to use when my baby comes and I’m excited to share with you what I received! All the items I received I would definitely use for the baby but here are the 5 items I am most excited about.

These six 2-ounce baby blocks can be stored, frozen, heated and served right out of the container, and are airtight, watertight and leakproof.  They are microwave and freezer safe my goal with this baby is to make more homemade pureed foods more so these baby blocks will come in handy in the near future.  I can take a couple with me in the diaper bag when I’m on the go along with the on-the-go feeding spoon.
I’ve seen my friends use formula dispenser before and thought it was a great idea but never bought one on my own.  I just carried the formula powder in a zip-lock bag.  But at only $4.99 for this formula dispenser, who can resist?  It’s separated in 3 compartments for portion control.

I like this flippy snack cup because it has a clear lid that closes the snack cup so it’s impossible to spill at all when not using it, not even the little tiny crumbs.

This roll-up bib is my favorite.  It is very durable and high quality and all water proof.  I am excited to have a little baby who will make a huge mess and get food all over his face, except for his clothes.  Yes, I’m one of those mothers who will take more pictures of her baby with spaghetti sauce all over the face than if she was standing in front of an original painting of Picasso.  Check out their other products such as on-the-go drying rack, and handy stroller hook.
OXO is having a giveaway for OXO Tot feeding and cleaning products worth $70, enter it here.  Thank you OXO!

Due in one week

July 19, 2013~ Etc.

Well guys, my due date is exactly in one week.  You’d think since this is my 3rd child I wouldn’t be as nervous, but as time is getting near by, I’m getting nervous!  Mainly excited to meet this little boy of mine but nervous about labor and all that fun stuff.  With my previous two births, whenever I’d get nervous and scared I would say to myself, “Well, I don’t know one single person who’s died from giving birth, so as long as it doesn’t kill me, I guess I’ll be okay.”  but now I can’t say that anymore because unfortunately, I know one amazing lady who’s recently passed away giving birth to her 6th child.  I cried for 4 days straight.  So I don’t have anything I can tell myself to make me feel less scared.  I guess all I can do is pray to God that everything will be okay.
I googled “what to pack for the hospital bag” and the list seems to be endless and overwhelming(boppy, pads, underwear, bathing suit for your partner, newborn book, snacks, change, gifts for older siblings and photos of the older kids so they know you haven’t forgotten about them, a journal, baby nail clipper…) and it was making me so overwhelmed that I just stopped reading and packed only the basic necessities.  I didn’t pack gifts for my other two kids(or any of the items mentioned above), I hope they don’t feel left out or unloved!  If you have any one item that you were so glad you brought or wish you had brought with you to the hospital, please share, I’d appreciate it so much.
*deep breath* Okay baby, I’m ready for you!
