Bringing home baby

August 8, 2013~ Etc.

maxi dress: c/o Oasap
This picture was taken just moments before we brought baby home from the hospital, I can’t believe it’s been a week since!  The first two days were the most difficult, and I had many meltdowns and tears.  One night I cried for 4 hours straight, as in bawling nonstop, and I had super puffy eyes(and that’s when we had the most visitors too, so attractive!) and massive headache for 2 days straight. One of my neighbors texted me to ask how I was doing and I replied to her that I had forgotten about how difficult the recovery process was and she replied back, “Isn’t it such a blessing from God that we forget after each child so that we’ll keep having more children?”  And I replied back to her, “That’s great you look at it that way but right now I look at it as a dirty trick by God!”
After that one night of many tears however, things have been pretty great.  I’m recovering really fast and the love I have for this baby of mine is so overwhelmingly incredible, it engulfs every part of me.  Gosh, having a newborn is so hard but how I love having a newborn!  Their purity, innocence and strong spirit just exudes out of them and you can’t help but be in awe and stare for hours and be completely entertained at watching the baby do nothing.  I want the time to slow down.  But until I figure out how, I will enjoy every moment of this precious stage, and let God play his trick on me.

Jesa for my grandparents

July 30, 2013~ Etc.

We had jesa for my grandparents, a Korean tradition of remembering the loved ones in our family who have passed away.  It is usually done by the eldest son and other families gather together to celebrate.  We have it every year on the day of their passing(see last year’s jesa) and it’s one of my favorite Korean traditions.  We prepare the food and set it on the table and we start the ceremony with a prayer.  Then we take turns bowing to show respect and let them know we’ve prepared the food for them and we’re remembering them on this day.  Then while we give our ancestors time to partake of the food we’ve prepared for them, (figuratively speaking) we usually gather together and take turns telling stories about them or any memories we have of them.  Most of the time the stories we share are funny stories that fill the room with lots of laughter and it’s a great way to finish the tradition.

my mom didn’t allow me to bend down to bow because of my big belly and I couldn’t stop laughing at how awkward my bow must have been with my clinched fist and all.
I love you halmoni and halabuji(grandpa and grandma)!  I have no doubt you are watching over us and that I will see you again.

What I packed for my hospital bag

July 26, 2013~ Etc.

all ready to go with my belly at exactly 40 weeks today!

These are the items I packed for my hospital bag:

• slippers

• bath robe
• toiletries (shampoo & conditioner, deodorant, make-up, face wash & lotion)
• going home outfit for me and baby
• hand mittens
• camera
• phone + charger
• thin swaddle/baby blanket
• a book
• a few pads
• nursing bra
• pillow

That’s it!  I will be delivering at the same hospital I gave birth to my other two kids, and one thing I love about that hospital is that they have a snack room.  The patient and the caretaker can go get snacks anytime and it’s filled with yogurt, fruit, granola bars, juice, oreos(they better still have oreos!), pudding, etc.  Isn’t that so great?  It kinda is one of the reasons why I chose that hospital…. eh hem.
