adalie’s b-day celebration part 2

November 12, 2010~ Etc.

on the evening of adalie’s b-day, i made one of her favorite food,
a spicy korean rice cake and went to the kangaroo zoo.
we love that place and have a blast everytime.

poor jay, since you have to be under 150 lbs. to ride, he just watched us.but he was a good sport and took fun pictures for us.

it was exhausting since i had to carry ana the whole time since
she is too little to climb up or get up on the inflatables.
but she was really good at climbing up the ladders on some of them,
we were very impressed! both of our girls are very athletic and it
doesn’t hurt that they’re fearless and such daredevils.
and we came home and sadly, i didn’t prepare any birthday cakes for her for that day
since i made one for her birthday party the day after.
so we just put candles in a ice-cream cone which she didn’t mind one bit.
kids get happy with the simplest things.
one of the many reasons why i adore little children.

on adi’s b-day morning/afternoon

adalie about to open her presents.

then we went to mcdonald’s real quick.

recipes from the b-day party

November 9, 2010~ Etc.

some of you asked for the recipe for the cheesecake ice-cream cake,
japchae(korean glass noodles) and the donuts from my husband’s birthday party.
so here it is!

japchae recipe here.

donuts
– vegetable oil
– can of refrigerated biscuits
poke a hole in the middle of the biscuits and fry them in vegetable oil.
krispy kreme glaze
1/3 cup butter
2 cups powdered sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
4 -6 tablespoons hot water
Creamy Glaze: 1. Heat butter until melted. 2.Remove from heat. 3.Stir in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth. 4.Stir in water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency. 5. pour over the donuts.

raspberry cheesecake ice-cream cake

1. in a bowl mix 12 oz. whipped regular cream cheese and 1 gallon of vanilla ice-cream with an electric mixer. (+ or – cream cheese according to your desire.)
2. cut the raspberries in half.
3. put the raspberries on top of the ice-cream.
4. bake the brownies on a round pan.
5. flip the brownies on top of the ice-cream and raspberries.

6. freeze overnight and to get the ice-cream cake out of the bowl, run warm water around the bottom of the bowl, put it on top of a plate/platter and it should slide out with some tapping.

7. make whip cream(heavy whipping cream+powder sugar) and put it on top of the cake. decorate the top with some fresh raspberries and refreeze until the whip cream gets hard.

also make sure to taste-test the whip cream
just to make sure it’s good. 🙂

help a classroom!

November 8, 2010~ Etc.

my dear friend Jasmine who is an elementary school teacher
is wanting a $750 grant to help her students that come from
low-income families and she would love your help!
she is a wonderful teacher and she totally deserves this.
here is her message:

Hi Family and Friends,

I have recently found out about this AWESOME grant opportunity for my classroom. It is from Del Monte and they are giving away 10 grants each Monday to a teacher’s classroom. The grants are $750 and I have chosen to use them for leveled books in my classroom and a couple “Leap Frog Tag” systems.

Many of you know that I teach at a Title one school, which means my students come from low income families. These students only exposure to books may be at school in my classroom. I have students who range from beginning readers to advanced readers. If I received this grant, I would purchase leveled books for my classroom which would accommodate all my students needs. The “Leap Frog Tag” systems would help my students who have parents who only speak Spanish and have no support at home. This way, they will still be read to even though their parents are unable to read to them.

This week is my last chance to win one of these grants. I just found out about it this weekend and would love your help in receiving one of these grants. These grants are awarded solely on the number of votes, so please help my students and I out! =) I would be so grateful if we could win this grant and get these wonderful resources!! You can vote ONCE every DAY on one computer!!! So if you feel so inclined, you could vote on your laptop and desktop =) So… please help us out!!

Here is how you can vote for me and my class!!

1. Go to or click on this link: http://www.fruits.com/teachermonday/vote.asp

2. Then when it asks for the school’s name type in: sandy elementary

**if you still can’t find us, it is listed in alphabetical order. I am in the bottom under Jasmine Yen**

3. Then my name should pop up and you should have the option to “view” or “vote”. Then you can cast in your vote!! Remember…you can vote once every day!!!

I just started this weekend and have until next Monday, November 15 to have a chance to win!! =) There will be one drawing tomorrow, Monday, November 8, but I won’t qualify since I just started today. But the votes roll over for the next drawing, which happens to be the final drawing. I have to be one of the top ten with the highest number of votes. So this could be possible!! Every vote counts!! vote everyday!

Thank you so much!!! My class and I are happy that you can participate and help us out! =) If you can, please send this to other friends or family members!! every vote counts! =)

Love,
Jasmine

my baby is three today

November 5, 2010~ Etc.

oh man i started tearing up even before i started to write.

my little buddah is three years old today.

when daddy put her to sleep tonight he asked her what she wanted for her b-day. she said, “I want a dora pillowcase, a kitty doll, a toy, and a blue push-pop.” then jay tucked her to bed and a few mins. later she opened the door and said, “daddy, i forgot, can you get ana a toy too?” which is the typical adi, always thinking of her little sister.
even though when she first crawled seemed like a month ago, she’s no more a baby, she’ll start pre-school, dance classes, she fits into a kid size clothes instead of toddlers.
oh how i wish time went by slower.
i couldn’t have asked for a more smart, funny, beautiful, curious, sweet,
thoughtful, talkative 3 yr. old.
will you be mine forever?
