Adi’s a big 5 now

November 21, 2012~ Etc.

We decided to throw birthday parties every other year for our kids instead of every year, and since we threw Adi a mermaid birthday party last year, we spent it with family this year. We told Adi it was her day, so she gets to call the shots the whole day, which she was very excited about.
she wanted pancakes for breakfast
she took oatmeal chocolate chip cookies to school to share with her classmates
both of the girls got Brave dresses & we watched Brave
create an animated gif
we told Adi she could go where ever she wanted for dinner and she chose Burgers Supreme.  It was a proud moment right there.  We’ve taught her the right ways.  Grandma and grandpa joined us for dinner also.
I told Jay I didn’t want to give her too many presents because I don’t want her to grow up spoiled, but Jay spoiled her way too much and got her way too many gifts(she got 7 big gifts! what 5 year old girl needs 7 big gifts?)  I told him he can spoil me since I’m an adult, but we can’t spoil the girls too much from now on, haha.
we went ice skating
and sang her a birthday song and let her blow out the candles many times.
I cried the night before her birthday like I always do the day before our daughters’ birthdays, but this time I cried a lot more because she was turning half a decade old.  She really is a big girl now.
I am so proud of you Adi, and I will always love you forever.

midnight rambling

November 16, 2012~ Etc.

Every night when I lie down on my bed to go to sleep, I look back on the day and think of all the  instances where I was imperfect, and how I can improve and what to work on.  And oh boy, let me tell you, there are always so many.  I’m not sure if there’s ever been a day since my children turned about 3 years old(when they start to talk back or disobeys you on purpose & does NOT listen to you until you ask them nicely 20 times and then you yell at them and that’s when they finally listen, argh!) where I spent the whole day with them where I never spoke to my children with impatience or annoyance, or not gave them some sort of attitude.  Come to think of it, I’m positive there hasn’t been even one full day where I spent the whole day with them without a break or Jay to help me watch them, where I spoke to them only in love, kindness, a soft-spoken voice, and without using an irritable voice.  How ashamed I am to admit that to myself just now.
I tell my friends that I thought I was such a good, optimistic, patient person until my kids turned 3 years old.  Now, I am the most pessimistic, impatient person I know.  Before they were 3, they were innocent, little babies who always had a legitimate reason every time they fussed or cried.  They were too little to talk back to you, and too little to be accountable(somewhat).  Now, if you were to hang out with me for a day, I can assure you that you’ll hear me say this a few times throughout the day: “Adi & Ana, I’ve asked you nicely to go put your shoes on exactly 8 times now.  If I have to ask you one more time, I will be so mad.  You know how I ask nicely about 10 times before I lose it? GO.”  Only after hearing my stern voice and seeing my “I’m about to lose it” face, do they run to go get their shoes on.  “Do you not speak English?  I said no!” You’ll hear that from me when the kids ask me if they can have/do something over and over again after I’ve told them no every time.  “Please! Can you just let me eat in peace for 5 minutes and not ask me to do something for you for just 5 minutes!!!  I want to eat my food while it’s still hot, I’m so sick of eating cold-because I had to get out of my chair 50 million times because I had to do something for you-food!(clarification: 50 million was a slight exaggeration)” If you hear that from me, it means I’m having a meltdown.  Oh my gosh. Sometimes I feel like I need an anger management class.  Or just a loooong break.
And no, I’m not ending this with a sweet, counter-what I just said note.
And it feels dang good.

Brahmin holiday 2012 catalog

November 14, 2012~ Etc.

This past Fall I had the opportunity to be a part of Brahmin’s Fall catalog, and I’m so happy I get to be a part of their Winter catalog as well!  I was asked to style some of their bags from their Winter collection in my own style while incorporating some of my holiday traditions as well.
green plaid shirt: gap | sequin top: jennifer lopez via kohl’s | dot pants: h&m
cape-style coat & leggings: romwe(c/o) | chevron stripe bag: brahmin | red boots: sears
coat: kenneth cole | skirt: swap | tights: h&m | scarf: gift | boots: sears | tote bag: brahmin
view the whole catalog here.

I’ve never heard of Brahmin before I got to work with them, but they’ve become my favorite handbags ever(this is not a sponsored post, and I’m not saying it just because I got to work with them, this is what I’ve been telling all my friends :).  When I received my first Brahmin bag, I excitedly showed it to my mom and we were both in awe at how beautiful and high quality the bag was.  My mom even brought out her very expensive desigber handbag to compare and my mom and I both agreed that Brahmin far exceeds the quality. Not to mention it’s a fraction of the cost, and much cuter in my opinion!  All their bags are made in the U.S which makes me love it even more.  So Brahmin, you’ve made a loyal fan out of me.

Dance class.

November 13, 2012~ Etc.

I snapped some photos right before adi & ana’s dance class(before I took ana out of her class due to her separation anxiety, that is).
This has been one of the best things about having two girls a year apart, which is enrolling them in the same dance class!

snow=coats & scarfs

November 11, 2012~ Etc.

shirt: Korea(DIY’ed) | jacket: anthropologie |
leopard pants: c/o sheinside | scarf: target |  boots: sears
striped coat: c/o oasap | jeans: f21 | rain boots: ilse jacobsen
There is snow everywhere here.  So we’ve been snuggling at home with hot chocolate, white chocolate popcorn & movies, and only going out when it’s necessary.  But I say bring on the snow, because I got my favorite rain boots on!  They have fur inside so I’m totally wearing it as snow boots, I don’t care!(I have it in red too and I am so in love!)
p.s. I’m a little stressed because I’m guest posting for a refashion project this week but I haven’t even started, and I have no idea what I’m going to make!
