A surprise

February 5, 2013~ Etc.

Every year for the past four years, Jay and I have made each other gifts for under $10 for Valentine’s(see  2009, 2010, 2011, 2012).  To me, a well thought-out gift that doesn’t cost a lot of money is the best gift, and means more to me than any expensive materialism, and I have a feeling Jay loves it too. πŸ˜‰  So for this year, I told Jay last month that we should keep our gifts handmade and under $10 and he agreed.  But guess what…. he had another plan on his mind!

He surprised me with an early Valentine’s gift.  After spending v-day with him, I get to fly solo to N.Y for 5 days while he uses his vacation days to watch the kids.  He also gave me a shopcard to use to go shopping in N.Y!  I will first go to Rochester for 2 days to visit my brother and his family, and then to New York City for 3 days to visit one of my best friends.  I’ve been wanting to go visit them for the past couple of years but never initiated it to make it happen and Jay’s so sweet to remember and actually make it happen. He talked to them beforehand without me knowing to set the best date for me to visit them and everything!  I’m so excited!!!
If you know of any awesome places to visit or to eat, please let me know!  So far, I want to go to Moods fabric store, and see the Statue of Liberty, but that’s all I have on my list right now.

How exciting! What a great hubby! I have been twice and I love it. Greenwich Village is great for vintage shops and thrift shops. The huge toys 'r' us is great for pressies for your girls. I also love Dylan's Candy Bar near Central Park – an amazing sweet shop!

You've got yourself a good husband! That is so awesome. I just went to New York for my first time in the Spring and loved it. I highly recommend Keste's for pizza and, of course, Magnolia Bakery for banana bread pudding.

This is so awesome! If you have a chance, try to see a Broadway play. You'll love it. πŸ™‚ And a stop at Carnegie Deli is worth it just to say you went there (although be prepared for the overpriced food).

Ok that is honestly, the sweetest thing ever! I love the under $10 gifts…I agree, a well thought out gift doesn't always have to cost a ton of money. But a trip to NYC is just so sweet. πŸ™‚

How cool! I live in Rochester, and there are some really fun places on Park Ave to eat and shop. I think you'd really like it!!

Shopping – I would suggest taking a day trip north to Woodbury Commons premium outlets in Central Valley, NY. My favorite stop when I visit family and friends in the area. Plan to spend all day there.

Sightseeing – If you have a day to spare, I suggest trying Stray Boots interactive scavenger hunt. I did the 5th Ave/Rockefeller hunt and learned so much (like where to find a piece of the Berlin Wall).

    Enjoy your trip!

In Rochester, you must go to Phillips European for dessert (they serve dinner too, but dessert is really why you should go.) The out side doesn't look like much, but your taste buds will thank you! They are not open on Sundays, so plan a head if that is one of the days you will be here.

If its food you're after, try these suggestions:

Under the Plaza Hotel there is a gourmet food court by Todd English. It's beautiful and full of amazing food. Plus there is also an Eloise store that you could stop in to get something for your girls.

Another great food market is Chelsea Market.

If you are on the Upper East Side (Madison Ave), DO NOT MISS La Duree.

Their macarons are unbeilevable–expensive–but worth every penny. If you should happen to go, there are two high end boutique pharmacies that are fun and very close by…Clyde's and Zitomer. At Zitomer they have a children's floor with gorgeous clothing and fun women's accessories.

There are so many amazing food trucks but this one caught my eye.

    Have a great trip!
