MY OLDEST IS A BLESSING

Do you believe in birth orders? I talked about it on this post here, about the differences between me, the youngest and my husband, the oldest. Having 3 kids now, and knowing the personalities of my oldest, middle and youngest child, I believe more in birth orders now than I have before! My oldest is responsible, mature, caring, disciplined, self-controlled, a good listener, a care taker of my other two kids and just an awesome, awesome child. She is Heaven-sent! And it seems after talking to many of my friends that their oldest child has all the same qualities as my oldest as well. I was trying to decide if it was more nurture or nature on why the oldests are the way they are, and I think it’s very much both, I believe they are born as the oldest because of certain characteristics they already had before coming to a family, and also because parents raise them different than their other kids. I for one am more harsh with her and more strict and we expect a lot from her. I remember one day when she cried in my arms saying how if she does something, she gets scolded but if her other siblings did the same thing, they wouldn’t get as bad scoldings as her. She said to me, “I know you and dad are harder on me because I am the oldest, but I am still just a kid!” It broke my heart and Jay and I continually try and be mindful of how we discipline her and not be quick to fault her when the kids get in a fight and we naturally tend to our youngest who is crying first, before making sure our oldest is okay.

Parenting is so hard, isn’t it? It’s so hard to discipline 100% fairly and also discipline the kids differently in a way that adheres to their personalities and needs. My oldest is sporty, outgoing, funny and silly. My second is an introvert, artsy and determined. Since they have different personalities, they dress different too and it’s hard shopping for their clothes when they have very different personalities! I thought I would save a lot of money since they’re pretty much the same size and would share the clothes, but most clothes they don’t share with each other. Maybe when they’re older they’ll have a similar taste and style in fashion but right now they’re different.

Kidbox is a style delivery service based on your child’s style and personalities. Every month they curate and send 6-7 items to your home and you can keep as little or as much as you want, if you keep all of the items, the cost is $98, which they charge only after you made your decision. If you keep only certain items, they charge according to how much each item cost. If you decide to only keep let’s say 5 times, might as well just keep it all since you might be paying $98 anyway for the 5 items. So it’s definitely the best deal if you keep all the items. Using Kidbox Style Profile, I should have checked off the “SPORTY” one but I have to be honest and say I checked off “PREPPY” to suit more of my style. Hehehe. Guilty! But ironically, when I opened the box, my daughter was impressed with the items while I was not. I didn’t like most of the selections( I will be posting every item I received below), and would have returned most of them back, which is no problem since you only keep the clothes you love and they don’t charge you until you pick what you’re going to keep. I did like the brands it was offered and also the quality was high-quality clothing, however. And my daughter liked every one of them except the tank tops because she said, “This reminds me of bras so I don’t like this.” She has a phobia of bras, it’s hilarious. When we pass the bra section, she covers her eyes and says, “Oh my eyes, my poor eyes!” Haha. So if she’s not aware of the fact that we are about to pass a bra/panties section, I point to it and say something like, “Oh my, look at those!” which gets her screaming and running away.

So here was what was in the box.

kid6I did check off “short hems” on things to avoid so I was surprised I got these shorts. I wouldn’t let my girls wear these, they are too short. But my daughter really liked it.

This is the “brap top” she was talking about. It came in black, gray and white which only counted as 1 item.

the white shorts on the left and the 3 tank tops were the only items I would have kept. But my daughter liked all of them.

She liked these lace joggers.

Would I recommend the Kidbox? I would say try it, why not? You  have nothing to lose, you can return all of them(free returns) and you won’t be charged at all. Another reason I want to support Kidbox is because for every box that a customer keeps, they donate an outfit to a child in need and you’d get to pick out the outfit! Kidbox Cares is a partnership between Kidbox and K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers – the largest nonprofit in fashion – dedicated to collecting and distributing new clothing to children in needy families. I think it’s great to talk to our kids about giving and helping others whom are in need and Kidbox will be a great way to start that discussion and have them be involved in picking an outfit! I also like the concept of having it delivered to your door, and cutting out the trying to shop with 3 little kids in two dilemma. I am all about online shopping, which is so convenient and saves a lot of time.

I really appreciate how you always are frank and honest in your reviews of companies. It’s good to hear that you weren’t entirely impressed with this subscription service, and your misgivings. I feel that a lot of bloggers who seek outside funding from sponsors have to sugar coat their feelings, and you don’t.

It makes it all the more honest and genuine when you do love a product.

Thank you for continuing to be you!
