This post is in partnership with Invisalign. As always, I don’t let that sway my opinion and I will always be honest and real with you guys!
Shall we go down the memory lane and look at pictures of when I had braces 5-6 years ago? When I went into my jump drive to find my braces pictures, I was looking back at 2013, thinking it was 3 years ago when I had braces but it was in the years 2010 and 2011! Holy cow! I didn’t realize it was 6 years ago that I got braces, and 5 years since I got my braces off, I can’t believe it’s been that long!
Then pictures of my girls when they were only 2 and 3 showed up and now my hurt is twisting and hurting that time goes by way too fast. Look how cute and little my girls were!
Now I am literally crying.
Anyway, when I became pregnant with my first child, I heard or read that your body would never be the same. Here are some things I was told:
- You gain weight and some you will never lose again.
- Your rib cage expands and takes awhile to get it back to it’s pre-baby size but most likely it’ll be a little wider than before.
- Your boobs will get much bigger when nursing but after you wean your baby, it shrinks smaller than pre-baby size and loses the firmness and perkiness(so so sad).
- Your hair will be shiny when pregnant but post-baby it’ll lose it’s luster and shine and your hair will fall out and get much thinner!
- Even if you go back to your pre-baby size, pants will never fit the same ever again. It might still “fit” you but not the exact way it used to pre-baby. How true this is!
- Your eye-sight will change. Mine for the worse. So I am assuming that’s the norm?
BUT one thing I didn’t know was that your teeth shift after you have a baby! What in the world?!!! Another thing we have to sacrifice as a mother, as if we are not sacrificing enough? Seriously, I get a little pissy thinking about all the things we women sacrifice as a mother. Not just body changes but sacrifices we have to make in every aspect of our lives. Good thing I find my kids so irresistibly adorable, right? 😉 So before I had children, I never thought I needed braces, my teeth were straight on the top teeth, and two teeth were crooked on the bottom but I have an overbite so you can’t see it when I smile in pictures so it never bothered me. But after I had my first child, my teeth became crooked on my top teeth. I didn’t really notice it because I am not very observant and wasn’t paying attention until Jay pointed it out to me. Thanks husband! Haha. He wanted to be a pediatric dentist and he’s very observant so those two traits combined, he noticed immediately. I have super weak teeth so I was about to get a ton of teeth work done and he told me I should get braces too since we are spending so much money on my teeth, might as well also get braces to make it perfect. I was getting crowns too and I guess you can’t get braces once you get crowns. So after thinking about it, I decided to get braces. Looking back, I am so so glad I did!
My confidence in my smile is higher than before I had braces, it’s like that concept of look good, feel good, do good, if you know you look good, then you feel good so you are able to walk out the door and forget about yourself and focus on other people!
Then a few years ago, my brother was looking into getting braces(in his 30’s), and we talked about whether he should get the traditional braces or Invisalign. Since he was in his 30’s and also worked at The Embassy with very prominent leaders of our Country, we agreed that it would be better to get the Invisalign where it wouldn’t be as noticeable as the traditional braces and also so that people would take him more seriously, than if he had braces that make him look like a 12 year old. He had it for 1 1/2 years and now has perfect teeth!
The average length of Invisalign is one year. And it’s capabilities are not limited to mild cosmetic cases thanks to many advances in its proprietary technology, Invisalign can effectively correct a broad range of more complex cases such as overly crowded teeth, widely spaced teeth, open bite, cross bite, and underbite. People think they are way more expensive but they are comparable to traditional braces and most dental insurance plans cover Invisalign and affordable financing options are often available as well.
I know lots of people who stop wearing their retainers after they get braces, only to have to get braces again years down the road, so my advice is, wear your retainers regularly OR get permanent retainers! I have a permanent retainer on the bottom teeth and it is so nice. It’s kind of a pain to floss but without it, my teeth started shifting within a few hours of not wearing my retainer. I am not joking, by end of the day, it would shift significantly where it wouldn’t be straight anymore. So I got permanent ones and never have to worry anymore. So I recommend permanent retainers as well if you think you won’t be as diligent in wearing retainers. Because that would suck to not wear retainers, only have to get braces again years down the road and pay for new ones again and also have braces when you are a lot older!
