#TyauSunday It was almost closing at Disney World when we stood in line behind an adorable couple in their 80’s, holding hands & matching in their white attire. I whispered to Jay, “I want that to be us when we grow older.” Since I try to let every kind thought about someone be known, I tapped the man’s shoulder & said to them, “I just think you two are the cutest couple. I just told my husband I want us to be like you two when we’re older.” They smiled warmly, said thank you & I turned to tend to my kids, thinking it wasn’t a big deal, I’m sure they get compliments like this all the time.
When our ride was ending and it was coming to a stop, I spotted the older man standing with his hands behind his back, waiting for me. As I got out of the ride, he put his hand on my shoulder & said, “I hope you have a lovely evening with your beautiful family.” & walked away.
I’ve thought about this man often since, I have no idea what his story is, what kind of trials they’ve endured in their marriage, what kind of health complications or illness they went through. But what I do know is, my simple comment meant a great deal to him. I was sure it wouldn’t be a big deal to him since they must hear it all the time. But I had a feeling that wasn’t true.
Don’t ever let a kind thought stop at just that. It doesn’t take much energy, effort or time to say a compliment to someone. But you never know what kind of impact it’ll have on them. We might think that person must hear it all the time, but chances are, they don’t hear it very often. It could just make their worst day into the best day. It could just make their bad mood go away. How powerful is that?
The power of words is immaculate. I believe every word that comes out of our mouth forms an instant energy & aura around our bodies. Even one positive word we let out could vanish the negativity and the darkness we might feel at times. Words have literal power. It might not be tangible, but things that are not tangible are almost always more powerful & poignant.
