I consider myself a somewhat paranoid, very attentive mom. So when Vtech reached out to me and asked me to review their baby video monitor, I had to make sure the baby monitor would be good enough for this paranoid mama. After reading that it had a bunch of cool features like the camera moves side to side 270 degrees to name just one of many, I was like, ” I want this, I’m in! Now I can really creep on my kids!” So I’m excited to tell you about this cool baby monitor.
We have an audio baby monitor that we used with all 3 of my kids before we received the Safe & Sound VM333 video monitor just a couple months ago. We have chucked the audio monitor away since because video monitor is just so much better! The biggest difference between an audio monitor and a video monitor is that since we can see right when our baby wakes up and moves around, we can go get him right then instead of waiting for him to wake up, move around, realize that we’re not there and start crying, which takes a few minutes. And since we go assure him and pat him back to sleep right when he starts stirring instead of waking up and crying, he falls right back to sleep more easily. It gives me peace and assurance watching him instead of just listening for his whimpers or cries because who knows what he could be doing while he’s whimpering or crying!
Some key features that I love personally are:
• The pan, tilt, and zoom feature: the camera moves up to 270 degrees side ways and tilts 124 degrees up and down. I feel like the biggest creeper/stalker when I control the camera while sitting in my living room and it tilts and moves around the whole room! I love it! It also zooms up to 2x so I can stare at my little precious boy’s sweet sleeping face. I’m an expert stalker, ya’ll!
• The video is in color.
• I can talk-back on the intercom so my baby can hear my voice. My 5 and 6 year old love this and use it like a walkie talkie.
• When the camera detects any movement in the room, it will alert me with a beep. I love this since I don’t have to stare at the screen every minute, and the alert sound helps me to not miss a thing.
• I have the option of buying up to 4 cameras with just the one parental unit I have. I can put the other cameras in other rooms so I don’t have to be moving the camera from room to room, but also so that I can stalk my husband and my two kids! If I send my girls to their rooms to clean their rooms, I can keep an eye on them and if they’re not cleaning their rooms and just playing around, I can talk on the monitor and keep them in check! I can view one camera, or up to 4 cameras at once.
• It has a temperature indicator to make sure my baby isn’t too hot or cold.
The funny thing is, when I received the monitor and excitedly showed it to my husband, he was like yeah yeah, whatever, that’s cool that you’re excited. But as he started using it, he kept telling me, “Okay, I won’t lie, this monitor is pretty cool.” And now he uses it more than I do! He always has it next to him no matter what he’s doing. He takes it to the bathroom with him, when he’s lifting weights in the garage, in fact he has it right next to him as I’m typing right now. See, I just took this picture below without him knowing.
Would you consider yourself a paranoid parent? What are some things you do out of paranoia?
