I’ve told you I’m doing Whole30, and guess what? I’m on day 26! The first week seemed so long and I was grumpy and resentful and I think my husband was super scared and thinking, “This is what I’m going to have to deal with for the next 30 days?” I will get into more details after I’m completely finished with Whole30 but one thing I learned the most is that we are really accountable for what we eat. Every single bite we take effects our health. Every thing we put into our body will either make us healthier or less healthy. I remember some years ago, years before I ever got pregnant, a pregnant lady told me how her doctor told her that whatever she eats, the body knows how to get the nutrients from the food so she doesn’t need to stress too much about eating the right foods. I guess that has stuck with me(I am super gullible, can you tell?) and I just thought even if I ate unhealthy foods, the body magically converts the unhealthy food into the right nutrients we need for our body. What bull crap! How can you derive nutrients from foods that have no nutrients to begin with? I knew that but I guess I justified it subconsciously. The book It starts with Food was the very first book I read about nutrition and it really opened my eyes. It really made me aware of how everything we eat effects how our body, brain and body functions. It’s overwhelming and scary to think about but it really motivated me to learn more about nutrition and eat whole foods vs. empty calories, foods that offer pretty much nothing but calories.
I am so determined to simplify my foods now. The lesser the ingredients on the back of the nutrition label, the better. If I can’t pronounce the ingredients(mostly chemicals and preservatives), I shouldn’t eat it. Or at least eat in smaller portions. I am all about finding balance and not going extreme or be super anal about nutrition(because being anal and stressing about it will be unhealthy also, which defeats the whole purpose), and I will definitely eat desserts and empty calories and not feel guilty about it, I will just be more conscientious of what I put into my body and take care of my body more lovingly and more responsibly. I am so excited!
