we don’t go on a lot of dates ever since we had kids
partly since i’m a paranoid mother who would totally get
a hidden camera in a heartbeat if we ever hired one.
so we always ask our married friends who we completely trust
which we feel bad asking so it hardly ever happens.
last weekend jay’s little brother came over to hang out
with his friends and after jay and i watched what would you do
(our first time and i don’t think it would be the last)
jay said, “let’s go get yozone.”
i thought, “wait, but the kids are sleeping…”
then i realized his little brother is here!
his brother is here all the time and we’ve never
took advantage of this before!
with just you and the husband regularly.
i should go buy a hidden camera so we can go out
more than just once every 3 months.
which reminds me of what i’ve been wondering…
how much do you pay your babysitter?
do you pay your close friends and family also? and
would you get a hidden camera when hiring a babysitter?
is that ethical or is it wrong.
i’ve just heard of too many horror stories
even when hiring kids they’ve watched grow and know really well.
and we’ve never hired a real babysitter before
and i have no clue how much to pay them.

So glad you two had a date night. That is sooo important when the kids are small. Even if you just have a "date" at home once the children are in bed!

I used to babysit alot for my neighbors and I charged $10 an hour for watching two little girls. I also babysat regularly for a friend and she paid me $8 an hour for watching 3 kids. I charged less just because she was a good friend of the family and I was kinda young. That was in California though, so I'm not sure if where you live it would be less.
Just to give you an idea. . .

While I taught swimming lessons this year I had a babysitter, she was with me at lessons and would really just put Axel down for a nap, and even though I trust her completely, I still had my fears. I think that is normal. But on the flip side, I am the designated babysitter for lots of my family and have been for a long time, I think its an honor to be trusted by parents with their little ones.
Kory and I rarely go out just the two of us, since when he has time off, we want to all be together, but we do find time at night after the kids are in bed to spend quality time together, we watch movies and have dessert, and I really enjoy this time.
I am glad you guys got out, if you ever need a sitter feel free to drop your girls off here, Axel loves friends over

I pay my babysitter $10.00 an hour and I think it is outrageous. It is cost prohibitive. I live an hour outside of the city so there is $20.00 in driving, lets say dinner and a movie, now were up to $60.00 for an evening and that is before the actual cost of the date!!! So, we don't get out much. My coworker said that was cheap and she new people who paid their nannies $15.00 an hour. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

Well, I pay my sitter $10 an hour, but I have three little kids (7, 5, 2), and on top of watching them and playing games with them, she somehow finds time to tidy the house as well! (Makes me insecure about my multitasking abilities, ha ha!)
I would get a camera if it would make you feel more confident leaving your child with someone, but NOT to "watch" a particular someone. If someone is giving you worry vibes, go with your vibes, but if you just have a more general worry of leaving the kids, then get the camera!
Glad you got a night out!

I pay my babysitters $5 an hour but they are on the younger side (13) and my kids are older (6 & 9) and I check in with them A LOT and leave very very detailed specific instructions and rules. I also pop in randomly so they never know when I'll be right around the corner checking on things. Kinda keeps em on their toes.

thanks everyone for your imput. I personally think $10 is a little too much since when you get a job when ur 16 you get minimum wage which is $7 n babysitting is much better and fun than those minimim wage jobs. And you get free food and all the snacks you want haha. I think in UT ppl pay around $5 dollars? I think $7-8 dollars is reasonable for me. 🙂 @jin: wow no ones ever asked me any makeup tips before! I'm so flattered lol. I'll blog some tips for you, I promise.
